Hi. I'm a new user. I've just noticed that my windows firewall is turned on. With my previous antivirus, it was always off and the other antivirus was doing the job. Is this the same with Eset? Also, Is there a way to talk to an Eset technical person??? I've spent hours trying to sort this. Would love to speak to a human lol.

You have posted in the ESET NOD32 Antivirus forum. This product does not contain firewall which means that after installing ESET NOD32 Antivirus the Windows firewall will remain active. On the contrary, if you purchase and install ESET Internet Security or ESET Smart Security Premium (also contains Password Manager and Disk Encryption tools), these contain a firewall. During installation, the firewall will replace Windows firewall. By default, existing Windows firewall allow rules will be honored.

As for phone support, I can't tell if it's available in your country. If I find out, I'll let you know. However, you can contact customer care via a form or ask other users or mods in this forum. Usually you should get a response quickly here.

Hi Marco. Thanks for replying. I was under the impression that we'd bought everything. Here's what the order receipt says I bought. Does this mean I still need to buy something else? When I open Eset on my computer, the Nod32 comes up. Have I installed it wrong?

You might have downloaded and installed the stand-alone antivirus - Nod32 - instead of the complete security suite that includes a firewall. The license for the security suite can be used to activate the stand-alone antivirus as well.

You have a ESET Multi Device Security license so you don't need to buy something else for firewall.
If you want ESET Antivirus + ESET Firewall, Just download ESET Internet Security from
uninstall ESET NOD32 Antivirus, install ESET Internet Security
Use your ESET Multi Device Security license to activate the software.

Hello! Due to problems with my computer I will be reinstalling my windows. I wanted to ask what should I do regarding my antivirus? Will I be able to use the same license key to install ESET again on my computer after the reinstallion of windows?

After I installed ESET Smart Security 8.0.319.0 (30 day free trial) on this machine (Windows 10 Pro), it starts up and Shuts-down/Sleeps remarkably slower than before. And, sometimes, the computer does not responding for minutes when it goes to Sleep mode (either manually or automatically when it is left idle for long time) or when I click Shut down button on start menu. Sometimes, it does not resume at all from that states and I have to shut down the pc manually by pressing the power button for seconds.

No, it is not the OS, because it was working normally and smoothly with Windows Defender, before installing ESET SS 8. In addition, I had the same issue in Windows 8.1 Pro before upgrading to Windows 10 Pro. Moreover, it slows down not just the computer Startup but also the computer Shut down and Sleep, and sometimes the system (Windows 10 Pro and Windows 8.1 Pro before upgrading) does not respond at all when it goes to shut down and sleep.

Let's try disabling automatic start of real-time protection and reboot the computer to see if that makes a difference. If so, re-enable it and reproduce the issue with boot logging enabled in Process monitor (for instructions, see hxxp://www.msigeek.com/6231/how-to-enable-system-boot-time-logging-using-process-monitor-tool).Once you have rebooted the computer and saved the log, compress it, upload it to a safe location and pm me the download link.

The list of failed services includes Net Pipe and SQL Server so, whilst it is something that needs to be addressed from a security perspective, I do not believe it is a problem within Eset that is causing the issue

I have now removed SQL Server 2008 R2 and replaced it with SQL Server 2012 (and also removed several other packages which I no longer need or use) and set some of the problem processes to "Delayed Start" (not eset). The PC is now booting ok and all processes start ok

ESET Smart Security 8 supports windows 10. Moreover, I removed it from Windows 8.1 before upgrading to Windows 10. Then re-installed it on Windows 10. In both Windows Systems (8.1 and 10) I faced the same issues.

But I think that this is normal during software development cycle if you are a developer as I guess because you SQL Server. Knowing that ESET SS 8 and NOD32 works fine and smoothly except in Shut down and Sleep modes, which sometimes the system does not respond. Also, it makes the system a little slow on both Startup and Shut down.

I think this is because of Windows 10 Security. May be we have to change some configuration or we have to have newer version of the Process Monitor software. I am waiting for Marcos to replay what to do.

But I think your problem will be solved if you stopped startup scan in schedule tasks if there is a little bit delay (such as 5 to 10 seconds more than usual). I think this causes the delay and it is normal. Moreover, the startup scan is not important if your computer is clean. just run the smart scan for first time when you installed NOD32 and real-time protection manages the rest of time.

But my issue on computer Shut down and Sleep, the delay is remarkably for a long time (measured in minutes) and sometimes It does not respond on sleep mode and I have to shut down my computer by pushing the power button for 5 seconds. this happens some times not always. knowing that my system's hard disk is SSD which should be much more faster in startup and shut down.

Last time when I shut down my computer was around 6 AM. The computer screen turned off but the power and HDD (SSD) drive LEDs was still lighting until around 2 PM. Therefore, I pressed the power button for seconds to turn off my computer improperly.

I think ESET is one of best computer security systems. However, for now, I have to uninstall the trial version from my computer and I shall use Windows Defender with Windows Firewall instead. I shall wait to the next release or version of ESET because this power-off may by crash my computer system and I have many works to do.

I used to connect my monitor to my PC with a standard (dual-link) DVI cable. I recently switched to a DisplayPort cable. Ever since, when my PC turns itself on overnight to run various scheduled tasks (at which time the monitor is OFF), if a nod32 update comes through during the time it is up, the next morning when I wake the PC up for my work day and another nod32 update comes through, the alert that usually pops up in the lower right corner of the display instead pops up in the middle of the screen (at about the point that the lower right corner WOULD be if the monitor resolution were standard VGA). I presume the display being off at the time the overnight update comes in makes nod32 think the screen is standard VGA and so it adjusts the alert position accordingly.

To restore the alert to where I want it I have to edit the registry and set the DesktopAlertPosition1 and DisplayAlertPosition2 to hex ffffffff. I suppose I could avoid it altogether if I were willing to leave the monitor on all the time, but that would waste electricity and I am loathe to do that.

It'd be nice if this could be fixed so that it didn't happen in the first place, but if not, it'd be nice if the ResetWindowLayout command could be enhanced to reset the alert position, perhaps optionally (so those who have deliberately put theirs in a non-standard place and like it that way don't get annoyed).

I didn't intend to imply it was that serious. In the grand scheme of things, I'd classify it as a minor annoyance (and doubleclicking the .reg file I created to apply the fix isn't that much of a burden). But life would be ever so slightly more fun if I didn't have to deal with this, so if sometime there's a rainy day with nothing better to do, maybe someone at Eset could have a wee look at it. Thanks.

Researching this further, I've discovered (and tested) a workaround for this issue. I'm posting it here in case anyone else has the issue and would like to get around it. I'd still like some kind of fix for this in nod32, although since the cause of this is a less-than-ideal Windows design decision regarding how to deal with DisplayPort devices when they get turned off, I'd understand if ESET shrugged it off as a Microsoft issue.

Here's the advice I found. It did work for me. However since it turns off USB selective suspend altogether, it can have possibly undesirable side-effects depending on the stable of USB devices you have and whether or not disabling the ability to selectively suspend them would cause an impact for you (e.g. as it might on a laptop running off battery). Why exactly a setting for *USB* selective suspend has an effect on how Windows deals with a non-USB DisplayPort monitor I'll leave to you to scratch your head about what Microsoft was thinking when it did this! Oh and despite the fact that the advice talks about Windows 7, it works for Windows 8.1 as well.

Go to Control Panel, Power Options, Edit the plan you use by clicking Change Plan Settings, once here click Change Advanced Power Settings. Once there, go to USB Settings, open the menu by clicking the + open the next menu named USB Selective Suspend Setting and disable it. Once this is disabled Windows 7 will no longer adjust your display setup when a display is turned off.
