The land on which the campground is situated was purchased in 1928. It encompassed approximately 1 mile of shoreline on the west side of Schroon Lake and 1 mile of International Highway. Construction of Eagle Point Campground (which derives its name from a sandy point on the shore line) was started in the years 1928-1929 and eight campsites were added in ensuing years to bring the total to 72.

In the mid-19th century, a rocky cliff near the location of what later became Eagle Point was a favored nesting place for eagles. An area resident, John Mathews, is said to have suggested "Eagle Point" as the name for a proposed post office in the community. The post office was established in 1872; Andrew McNeil was the first postmaster.[8]

Streetcar traffic began to serve the park in 1912. The Union Electric Company constructed the track, turnaround, and waiting station in the area above the park entrance where the eagle statue and flower beds are located. In 1920, a bathing beach was constructed but closed when the lock and dam was built in 1933.

Today, approximately 240,000 people visit the park each year and more than 1,200 events are held at the park. A hike/bike/walk trail, following the original trolley line trail, from Shiras Avenue to the turnaround with the large eagle statue was completed in 2010.

This is dummy copy. It is not meant to be read. It has been placed here solely to demonstrate the look and feel of finished, typeset text. Only for show. He who searches for meaning here will be sorely disappointed. These words are here to provide the reader with a basic impression of how actual text will appear in its final presentation. Think of them merely as actors on a paper stage, in a performance devoid of content yet rich in form.
