Hi all,

I've just picked up two System 3 as well. One has the original 8" drives and the other has 5 1/4 drives, although I was also given additional 5x 8" hard drives, but I don't know which ones work. I'll be doing the same as David and getting a Gotek up and running to start with and to test. Thank you to norwestrzh (Roger) for posting the images in David's thread. They'll be useful. I do have a a fair amoint of software on 8" for them as well that I need to dig through.

Both the units are not in great shape unfortunately. They were left in a damp warehouse for years, so the PSUs are quite rusty. I'll refurbish them mechanically and electronically, but in the meantime I may replace with Mean Well PSUs to test with, unless someone has other options that are viable.

Regards

Euan

Greetings Euan,
It looks like we may be on a similar path. One of the systems we have was a bit rusty, in fact we found half of the primary winding on the auxiliary power supply transformer was open circuit, we 'borrowed' a transformer from another system to make it work. The main supply is activated by a relay powered from the auxiliary supply so there was no main power until we fixed that.

The main power supplies are actually quite simple bridge and smoothing circuits. It looks like the regulation is done locally by each S100 card.
Best regards, David.

Thanks for the information David. That's good to know.

I'm hoping to get one working one from two, then get the second up and running and sell it to pay for the first one :-D

Happy to collaborate with any repair findings/advice over the course.

Regards
