Reunion planning meeting recap/update

We had a very productive planning meeting last night at Tres Amigos. Classmates in attendance were, Becca Dahlstrom, Patty Horn, Beth Bouldin, Mike Meredeith, Rodney Bryant, Kenneth Howard, Ron Colunga, Phyllis Blann, Phyllis Rummell, Carolyn Greer(all the way from Shreveport), Bobby Lane, and I think I am forgetting one other. Oh well. Sorry.

 

Here is a snapshot of what we did or are doing—

 

*—Changed the time of the Reunion to 6:30PM to 10:30PM. We had originally said 6PM-11PM.  Same date—Sat Sept 11^th.

 

*—Beth Bouldin placed ads in Austin American Statesman and with Time Warner cable, announcing the reunion date and time, etc. Check the sections of those two venues for further details. I will also be posting the same information on several website—Classmates(already done) Face Book, South Austin Memories, and the Crockett Google Group. Additionally, with the help of all of you and the committee members, I am creating a Master List of Class of ’70 names and addresses. It is fluid and the latest version is attached to this email.

 

*—Set small budgets for awards(to be headed by Bobby Lane) decorations(to be headed by Becca Dahlstrom, in collaboration with Phyllis Blann and Rhonda Taylor, sound system, and a few other small items.

 

*--The decoration theme will be “40 Rocks”…

 

*--There will be approximately 10 awards categories for such things as most hair, least hair, traveled the farthest, most times married, and so on…

 

*--Mike Meredeith has the golf outing all set—it will be held beginning at 10AM Friday morning Sept 10^th at Lions Municipal Course on Lake Austin Blvd. Several awards will be given for such things as low score, of course, but also closest to the hole and a couple others. Mike’s brother Ron owns Lamb Tire and Auto and he will be donating a couple of nice prizes as will Ken Howard , who has several golf bags and other smaller golf items. The cost to play golf will be $40 per person. Should be a blast! Stay tuned for future updates from either me or Mike.

 

*--Carolyn Greer is on target to have a very professional Power Point video of our years at Crockett as well as a memorial to our deceased classmates. We went over the details of what will be included in the video at length, last night. BTW, Carolyn is in serious need of additional photos from 1968 thru 1970 to augment the yearbook photos that she will pull from the ’68 Rebel Round Up and the ’69 and ’70 Crockett Texans. If you are unsure as to how to send the photos, just call me at 512-858-4736. We’ll figure it out. Carolyn’s email address and street address are included in the master list attached.

 

*--We have assigned tasks for specific reunion night events. For example, Bobby Lane will handle the prayer for our deceased classmates, Tim Raven will be our Master Of Ceremonies, I will do the initial greeting, Ron Colunga will lead the Pledge Of Allegiance, and so on…

 

*--Rhonda Taylor-Laks will create name tags and we will actually put the classmates’ pictures on both the classmates’ name tags and the spouses’ name tags. That way everyone will know who belongs to whom.

 

*--Much time has been spent, mostly by Kay Sylvester and Beth Bouldin, locating Crockett Faculty from 1969/70. They have done and are still doing a super job finding these special folks. We decided to provide transportation for the faculty members who need it and to pay for all faculty and spouse’s meals.

 

*--The cost of the event is currently being proposed at $30 per person which includes the BBQ, tea and water provided by Berts BBQ. You can also bring your own beer and wine if you choose.

 

*--Two notices are going to be sent out to as many classmates as we can find to let them know all the details about the reunion. The first notice goes out on Saturday, July 31^st. We will meet one more time prior to that date to make sure we are all in sync with the contents of the notice. Then  another notice will be sent out at the end of August. We will be sending email notices for those we have email addresses for, and mail/paper notices to those for whom we only have street addresses. This includes faculty.

 

*--Rodney Byrant is our designated Treasurer and  therefore will be handling all things financial related to the reunion.

 

*--We decided not to have a DJ or a band but rather to have CDs of 70s music running on a sound system when we are not addressing the classmates.

 

*--Phyllis Rummell and Tim Fojtik will be our on site photographers for the reunion and the golf outing.

 

*--Jay Bouldin will be tasked with acquiring a good sound system for the reunion.

 

*--I have signed the contract with 12 Oaks Ranch, so we are now in this for the duration!

 

*--I will be coordinating the Reunion night agenda/program with all pertinent committee members over the next few weeks and will have it pretty much complete by the time the first notice is sent out.

 

So, to recap, we are making great progress and many people are now pitching in to help, and I so appreciate that. But, to make this a really excellent event, we need to get as many classmates as possible TO 12 OAKS RANCH ON SEPT 11^TH! Therefore, I am asking that everyone who receives this message, pulls out all the stops and helps us locate email addresses and street addresses for an classmate not on the attached master lists. Email them to me, please.

I’ll send this to Rodney Bryant directly, since he is the organizer of the quarterlys. I will also send it to Lewis Barba who organizes lunches for Crockett alum from time to time. In fact there is one scheduled for next week, July 14^th at 11:30AM, but I can’t remember where. It’s one of the restaurants on Barton Springs Rd by Kinney Avenue. I will copy Rodney and Lewis with this email since they may not check the Crockett Google Group site all the time. I will also update the master list of emails and street addresses with Jon’s info.

I hope i can make the reunion after my hospital stay with a new right hip aug.10th Newt Hasson my Orthopaedic surgeon says i should able to walk good after 4-5 weeks with out a cain.

I will come get you and carry you over there, if I have to…Good luck with the surgery. I have several other friends who have had that surgery and they only wish they had done it years earlier.
