Masjid As-Salaam, ICCD, are also perticipating somehow.  It would be great if Al-hidaya could do something as well.  I know there are events taking places that morning so perhaps they could package meals to be delivered to a certain location for dinner (Which is usally 4 or 5pm). If media covers the story, that would be great.

Let me know if you want to arrange this for Al Hidaya. I can give you contact for the shelters.

We should get together with sr. Rafeena about the summer program and InshAllah we work on the details for the NMSKDay.  Of course, another way to help is to spread the word. If you have family outside of Albany, please try to get them involved. InshAllah.

Assalamualikum, 

The system is simple.  All Masjids, Islamic schools, MSA's from Colleges and Schools throughout the U.S can feed those in need in their community on Saturday, APRIL 30th under one umbrella, "MSKP" Muslim Soup Kitchen Project. Invite media to cover this and let them know this is happening throughout the states. This will bring Muslims in a positive light in the media and show Unity. InshAllah. Do not forget to register and let us know how many meals your organization will be serving.

This is a great way to build bridges. This is where the Masjids and local Muslims come together to help their community. This is not limited to Muslims only. Non-Muslims can help as well.

There are many ways to do this. Here are some ideas:
1) Local Masjids can sponsor this event, or group of family can come together and cook and serve.
2) If the Masjid is in an area where there are alot of needy people then they can open their doors and hearts that day and feed meals (this is what Masjid AS-Salaam is doing here in Albany, NY).
3) Someone can package meals or fill a bag with non perishable items to distribute them to local refugees.
4) One can connect with local schools and see how they can perticipate in feeding those children who normally do not have anything to eat during the weekends while there is no school.
5) Call a shelter (homeless or any other kind) and ask if you can cook there and serve meals that day.
6) What to serve? Menu is flexible.  You can decide whatever is easy for you.  We will be serving hot dogs,  chili, salad, and desert.  The Albany Masjid here will have their volunteers make chicken curry, salad, and desert.  So you see, it is up to you to decide what your organization is able to do.
7) If your organization cannot afford to buy the ingredients or does not have enough volunteers to donate, you can reach out to other organizations such as ICNA, ISNA, or other such big organizations that might be able to sponsor your event.  Zakat Foundation will be paying for up to 500 meals here in our community.!
