Davis signed a one-year contract two days before training camp started, an addition that could prove to be just as significant as signing defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh and trading for cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters.
Davis' intuition was right on, and he has found himself working extensively with the starting defense as an outside linebacker during the first three weeks of training camp. Coach Sean McVay has frequently identified Davis as one of the early standouts, though the praise apparently has not filtered down to the seven-season veteran who last played for Buffalo.
"I'm not looking for any kind of cheers or pat on the back from the coaches, but if they are fans of me, then obviously that's a good thing," Davis said. "My thing is going out there and not letting the guys down next to me. Just giving it my best and playing hard."
The quick transition Davis has made at outside linebacker is all the more important because the Rams must replace both starters there after trading Robert Quinn to Miami in March and not re-signing free agent Connor Barwin.
Quinn and Barwin combined for 13.5 sacks last season. Davis has flashed pass-rush ability with 14 career sacks, including 6 1/2 in 2014 for Jacksonville. Getting to the quarterback has always come naturally for Davis, but he is adjusting well to the coverage responsibilities of his new position. Recruited to Bethune-Cookman University as a tight end before moving to defense, Davis showed he still has soft hands during a post-practice session Saturday night catching balls from a JUGS machine.
Instead, the biggest change for Davis has been rebuilding his body to handle the athletic demands of playing outside linebacker. He reported to training camp at 280 pounds, which was fine by the Rams, but it quickly became evident to Davis that he had to drop weight.
"They liked the way I moved when I came in," Davis said. "I came in and ran (the conditioning test) perfectly fine and was moving around perfectly fine, but for me personally I knew I have to shed weight to be able to keep this up the whole year. I'm down 10 pounds already from the start of camp and I'm looking to lose another 10, 15."
"I know I had to switch over to Sam linebacker, but that's really why I came. The defense, the Wade Phillips defense is a good fit," Davis said. "I've been talking with the Rams the whole offseason. We kind of sensed that this is where I wanted to be, and we went back and forth about everything, but I was just glad to be here. The Rams, LA just made a ton of sense for me as a player. The atmosphere, the city, everything about it just felt right."
The "Living in Portugal" events were staged for the purpose of providing future foreign residents with information about various practical aspects of life in Portugal and the Algarve. These seminars are organised by Open Media Group, the main Portuguese publishing house for foreign-language publications, together with various partners who offer advice about all matters related to living in Portugal and, in particular, in the Algarve.
Sharing the same vision, the Algarve Evolution Association, the Algarve Promotion Bureau, the Algarve Tourism Board and the University of Algarve joined forces to develop Algarve Tech Hub's globalisation project, with funding from CRESC Algarve 2020 Portugal 2020. The primary goal of the project is to help companies and other entities involved in the Algarve technology sector's R&I system to successfully expand into international markets, especially the USA and Germany. It is also intended that this set of initiatives will make it possible to assess potential opportunities to strengthen the regional ecosystem and attract qualified resources.
This first prospecting campaign in the USA, which took place from the 7th to the 12th of February 2023, led to a considerable increase in contacts and strategic partnerships for the four members of the delegation who travelled in representation of what is arguably the best European ecosystem in which to live, study and work.
At one of the Living in Portugal sessions, Miguel Fernandes, president of Algarve Evolution, the association that represents the ecosystem's technology companies, presented the ecosystem and answered the many questions put to him by attendees who were naturally curious about our country and the Algarve region in particular. In the words of Miguel Fernandes, "It's amazing how much interest is being aroused in the United States about Portugal and the Algarve. It's like living the American dream, but in reverse: this time, people want to live the Algarve dream. They even want to know not only how to live in our country but also how they can contribute to its economic development. It was very gratifying to feel that, even from so far away, there is a desire to take an active part in our ecosystem."
Algarve Evolution's vice president, Vanessa Nascimento, highlighted the importance of the message of support received from the Portuguese Consul-General in San Francisco, Pedro Pinto, who said that Portugal is a country with a vision for the future and which is clearly demonstrating its commitment to sustainability, the sea, tourism, innovation, competitiveness and digital technology.
This prospecting mission would not have been complete without a visit to the highly-regarded California State University, East Bay. Located in the city of Hayward, which is twinned with Faro, the institution recognises the importance of its Portuguese counterpart as an ally in ensuring comprehensive training for its students. The University of Algarve (UAlg) has been earning an international reputation, as a result of which it has been very successful in attracting international students, interested in the singular range of course options and keen to take up the offer mentioned in the University's motto: Study where life is good. Andr Botelheiro, the current coordinator of UAlg's Communications Office and Head of the Rector's Office at the University, together with Hugo Barros, Head of the Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer Division (CRIA), met with the directors of the Californian university, which is located in the San Francisco Bay area, to share practical information about how the two institutions can foster and develop a technological ecosystem. In the case of San Francisco, the most innovative and solid on a global scale and, in the case of the Algarve, increasingly making its mark internationally, as can be seen from the recent installation of the UAlg Tec Campus (business accelerator). At the same time, a collaboration protocol between the two universities was drawn up in readiness for signing on the 21st of February, when UAlg's Rector, Paulo guas, will be visiting. The protocol will open the door to an effective exchange system between them, as well as to the technological ecosystem trending within the university community.
It may seem like a strange question, but where do you live? This is a common question I ask at our county extension programs. No, I do not deliver mail, nor do I want to know your address, but in the world of horticulture, it is important to consider where we live. Usually, when I ask this question, participants at the extension programs respond with answers relating to political boundaries, such as Nassau County, Florida, Callahan, Fernandina, etc. No, the answers are not wrong, but I want us to think a little differently. Specifically, I want us to think about our landscaping address.
Selecting the right plant for the right place requires an understanding of the different environmental factors that influence plant selection. By following the first principle, we allow ourselves to select landscape plants that will naturally thrive in our environments. Just as our environment dictates our plant selections, our landscape management practices and decisions impact our environment.
All our water resources are connected. Decisions upstream impact and influence water quality downstream. These impacts relate to water quality and quantity. A great example most individuals are aware of is the impacts of water quality and quantity in the Gulf of Mexico related to the Mississippi River. Poor landscape management decisions occurring in Bozeman, Montana, have an impact on water quality in the Gulf of Mexico. We call the large areas of land that drain their water together watersheds. Watersheds are geographically defined boundaries that go beyond our political boundaries.
Although HUCs allow people within the field to codify watersheds, understanding that we all live within a watershed is more important. Our landscaping decisions, good or bad, directly influence our environment and everything within our watersheds. Therefore, when we are considering plant selection, we should follow the principle of right plant, right place. This significantly reduces maintenance, water requirements, and can nearly eliminate the use of fertilizers. In turn, we protect our water resources and have healthy landscapes.

To be an Agile coach there is a level of leadership, scrupulousness and rigor that is required for members of the organization, at all levels, to buy into what you're dishing, to believe in you and offer you their respect and undivided attention.
With that being said, and as relates to all things, a balanced approach must be taken. I've personally known and witnessed genuinely kindhearted people, that when put in a position of power to lead a team, subconsciously become arrogant and condescending towards their team members. Needless to say the team did not appreciate this, one bit.
I am very much a believer of treating others the way I would like to be treated, so I make a conscious effort to always be gentle (yet firm) with my approach to coaching and training. When someone on my team makes a good point that may contradict what I've said or explained, or if I am asked a question that I haven't received before, I like to be transparent with my response. My replies in such occasions are something like; "That is a good point, I hadn't thought of that before." or "That is good to know, thank you for bringing it to my attention."
