Anaudiophile's paradise, the Analog Vault is a cave of vinyl, turntables, and other music merchandise, as well as indie hardback and paperback titles for a good read. Similar to its online store, the Esplanade brick-and-mortar carries records in mono and stereo, as well as box sets, limited editions, and 7' singles by artists from a plethora of genres. But what sets this record store apart from others is its independent record label TAV Records, so don't be surprised to find LPs of local bands hidden amongst the many international titles.

This record emporium showcases an extensive collection of vinyl records, spanning across genres like pop, rock, classics, and even anime soundtracks. And if you're in need of a new set-up, you'll be happy to know that it's also the authorised dealer of Audio Technica turntables and accessories.

About a year ago my girlfriend and I embarked on a 4 months trip across South East Asia. When we got to Singapore I quickly figured out there were several record stores there and I just had to visit a few of them.

If black metal is your genre, Ravage Records will be your playground. Nestled in the Golden Mile Complex, the store carries the darkest, most hardcore collection of underground music in the vinyl format. Unsurprisingly, its proprietor also fronts Balberith, a local bestial death metal band. An assortment of vintage paraphernalia is on sale as well.
Travel further back in time as you enter Zenn Audio Electronics, an inconspicuous little boutique situated in the Bedok Shopping Complex. What used to be a turntable repair shop is now a treasure trove of vintage record players and classic vinyl releases that run the entire gamut of genres from Mandopop to blues rock. Another joint keeping the yesteryears alive, Simply Music offers a more affordable variety of vintage vinyl goods, with a focus on jazz and classical titles.

Any nerves that were building up as I waited in the hotel lobby were vanquished by the sheer warmness of Bach, along with his bandmates Brent Woods and Bobby Jarzombek. Bach was exceptionally friendly, and greeted me with a hug almost immediately.
Bach may be a tall guy, but it takes a special character to possess a personality that easily fills up any room. With his eyes zoomed in on the KISS figurines on display, Bach entered Roxy with the kind of exuberance that immediately warmed him up to the long-serving store owners, Richard and Paul. Sebastian, Brent and Bobby immediately started going through the boxes of records.
The always-friendly Mr. Sahib of Sahib International guided him around the store personally, although the KISS t-shirts at the door were almost enough for Bach. Sebastian certainly brought joy to all around with his infectious energy and spirited personality.
We wanted to head over to The Adelphi for more record shopping but the effects of jet lag started to strike Bach and company, so they decided to head back to the hotel for some well-needed rest before dinner.
Despite being a seasoned vinyl collector, Bach was taken aback by the variety of records in Singapore, even stores in the same vicinity. If he thought Excelsior was impressive enough, he only touched upon the tip of the iceberg. Long live rock 'n' roll, and long live vinyl!

It's not rare to find many record stores organising musical performances, meet-and-greets, and the occasional guest DJ on board, wax heads and passers-by alike flocking into stores to catch a glimpse of all the action. Artists and bands are also known to drop a list of exclusive releases just for RSD, so the most fervent of fans ought to pay their local record stores a visit in order to get their hands on one of the usually limited copies.
This year, the first drop for RSD is set to take place on 12 June 2021 (Saturday), a day before restrictions from current measures are set to be lifted.
While celebrations in Singapore may continue to take on a more muted approach given the Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) restrictions, the spirit of RSD remains alive and strong amongst record stores and music-lovers alike. We spoke to some participating stores in Singapore to find out what they had planned, and included a few other listings that you should check out. Read on to find out more - Ready, Sanitise, Crate-dig!
Mosta Records is a vinyl record store that also became an indie artist management label in 2017. They're authorised dealers of Third Man Records (owned by legendary rockstar Jack White), Audio-Technica turntables, Fat Possum Records and several more. We spoke with head honcho Mr Azri Ali to find out what Mosta Records has up its sleeves this RSD.
Too many to list down, but definitely Ibrahim Maalouf's S3NS. He's one of our favourite artists. All our staff who've worked here loved that record. We got the album directly from the management of the artist, which was really special. We have his whole catalogue. The artistry of the French-Lebanese jazz trumpeter, composer and conductor is just mesmerizing. A must-listen and buy.
PS: Mosta Records will also upload a special DJ set by MC Jahi from the legendary hip-hop group Public Enemy. He is doing it exclusively for Mosta Records to celebrate RSD and the release of his record 'Forward Future', which will be available in-store too!
Vinyl Kakis, run by Cherilyn Tan since December 2016, is a record store that largely stocks used vinyl from 'uncommonly common' genres such as retro pop, metal, experimental and more. It hopes to spread the love of these lesser-known styles of music to its customer kakis (Bahasa Melayu for 'friends'). We speak with Cherilyn to find out what she has in store for RSD.
