Hello!
I'm seeking critique partners for my novel "Trickster," an epic retelling of Norse mythology from the first person POV of Loki. This novel has been over five years in the writing, and last summer I sat down and completely finished rewrites/edits and am currently in the process of attempting to write a query letter/seeking agents. I haven't been able to get anyone else to read it since the very first draft, and I desperately need another set of eyes to give an objective opinion if it's ready for publication: especially for the first few chapters.
The full summary:
When Loki of Jotunheim is adopted by Odin, King of Asgard and Lord of the Nine Realms, he agrees to infiltrate and betray the city of Vanaheim in exchange for a throne of his own. But while Odin would never break his word he is more than adept at bending it, and his betrayal leaves Loki with a thirst for vengeance that all the fires of the world cannot quench.
But there are forces at play that even Odin in all his wisdom cannot guess at. It is in the nature of universes to die to make room for new worlds to be born, but it is not in the nature of those who are immortal to let them. The Tree of Life has therefore created an agent to ensure that the world dies according to schedule before her own life is drained away, and nothing remains with which to create new life. But anyone capable of wiping out all life can only be seen as a monster, and therefore only a monster would be capable of the deed.
As Loki's hatred takes him down paths he never meant to tread, the noose around his neck grows tighter and the options left to him grow fewer. For the destiny of every living thing rests in the branches of Yggdrasil and the threads of the norns and while the road chosen may be different, the destination is the same.
Ragnarök is coming. Asgard will burn.
Books that I've read recently include Daniel Abraham's Kithamar trilogy, Michael J. Sullivan's Legends of the First Empyre, and Rachel Aaron's Hell for Hire. Less recently, but my all time favorite authors, are Becky Chambers, Patricia A. McKillip, Maggie Stiefvater, and Megan Whalen Turner. I'll read pretty much any scifi/fantasy but I prefer good characters and compelling stories over elaborate worldbuilding and meticulous attention to detail.
Let me know if you're interested in partnering up!
