Hi there-

I write adult romantic fantasy. I would love to find some friends to share the writing journey with, cheerlead for each other, and give/receive honest feedback.

My current work in progress has been through several drafts but is not yet ready to query. (Close, I think.) I am just finishing up a 6-month writing course taught by developmental editor Lorin Oberwegger, which has been a great learning and growth experience.

Pitch: A mage veteran, betrayed in love and war, flees her defeated homeland, concealing her lethal magic and identity so that she can lead the “normal” life she’s always wanted, instead of being defined as a weapon. In a prosperous new country, she falls in love with a powerful mage whom she serves as a guard, but realizes that his returned affection is for the false version of herself. To realize love’s potential, as well as keep him safe from his enemies, she must embrace her magic and reveal the truth of who she is. But she fears that her lie, her past violence, and her threatening mage Talent will lead him to repudiate her.

As I reader, I prefer romance. Though my current work is closed-door, I am fine to read spicier stuff so long as love and emotionally intimacy is at the heart of the story. I would also read historical, fantasy, anything YA or Middle Grade, and (probably) women’s fiction.

Favorite authors:

Fantasy/Romantic Fantasy/Romantacy: Holly Black, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Mariana Zapata, Jim Butcher (Calderon series), Laurie Forest, Naomi Novik, Patrick Rothfuss, Rae Carson, Rebecca Yarros

Contemporary Romance: Sarah Addison Allen, Jenn Bennett (YA), Ali Hazelwood

Thanks for your consideration 😊

Jessica
