I have just finished the draft for book one of my series "Of Dragon Blood and Silent Love: Love Thought Lost" Which is a YA dark fantasy romance series set in a world roughly analogous to 1600s earth. It's roughly 81000 words long.
It stars Erica Shadowdrake, a stifled merchant's daughter who finds herself mysteriously sold to a caravan of "Handed-ones", a magical group of secretive traders who speak only in sign language. Watch her slowly unravel the plot that is spiralling around her as she at the same time tries to figure out why her guard, the mysterious Major Sa'ra, reminds her so much of her ex-girlfriend Sarah.
Why is Erica important? Why was she sold for 10,000 gold teeth? And why does Sa'ra stare at her with the same orange eyes Sarah did?
The last book I read that I loved was unfortunately Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. Then I heard about the allegations.
The book that epitomizes me as a reader is probably Mockingjay. Absolutely fantastic character work and emotional depth.
