Hi Everyone,
I've been thinking a lot lately about how isolating the writing life can be, and how much more isolating it feels when you're an African writer trying to find your people.
So I want to try something: a critique partner group, open to African writers wherever you are in the world. We'd exchange work, give feedback, and for those who want it, keep each other accountable on goals and progress. To keep things simple, I'm thinking WhatsApp as our main space.
To give you a sense of the kind of work I'm bringing, I'm currently working on a fantasy short story and a speculative fiction manuscript. Here's a logline for the speculative fiction piece:
During the 2009 Zimbabwean famine, an NGO recruit investigates an undocumented village's miracle harvest, but her humanitarian mission becomes the ticket to her own disappearance. The hope is that we build something that actually feels like ours. A space where the work is taken seriously and the writers behind it aren't invisible.
If that sounds like something you need too, I'd love to hear from you. You can reach me at
