Hello!
Here is the basic pitch:
Oerwyn is the greatest living magician, and all it cost him was ten years of sexual enslavement to a drow, and the half of his heart he lost escaping. He even got PTSD and alcoholism thrown in for free. A bargain, really.
He's managing it just fine, working as a magical tax collector until his new king (and alleged friend) starts accusing him of “not recovering” and “needing to heal”. The king forces him back to the scene of the crime- Ausilt, where Oerwyn was raised, captured and sold. He's meant to investigate new allegations of magical corruption by the same Earl, and find peace. Oerwyn decides to interpret this as an opportunity to kill the man who once wronged him. What could be more healing?
Things in Ausilt are worse than he'd imagined. The town is starving as the nobles feast, the Earl is immune to Oerwyn’s magic, and the memory of the drow lives loud in a city that still mourns her death at Oerwyn's hands. Her legacy is everywhere, and there are signs that the Earl might be back to his old trafficking ways. In order to kill him, Oerwyn must overcome his own demons, and face what happened to him head on, or else abandon his hometown to the same fate he once suffered.
It's about 89k, and I'm looking for someone to swap chapters with. I love being able to engage in dialogue about books with a critique partner along the way, but am open to different methodologies.
If you are interested, let me know!
