MAVIN HOSTS ANNUAL LOVING DAY CELEBRATION

(Seattle, WA May 10, 2011) – On Sunday, June 12, 2011, a diverse cross-
section of the greater Seattle community will gather at Youngstown
Cultural Arts Center (http://youngstownarts.org/) in West Seattle to
celebrate the 44th anniversary of Loving v. Virginia (1967), the
Supreme Court case that overturned one of this nation’s last anti-
miscegenation laws and legalized interracial marriage across the
United States. This free, family and community event is organized by
MAVIN, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization that seeks to raise
awareness about mixed heritage people and families.

“MAVIN is proud to organize one of the many annual Loving Day events
happening across the country” said Mary Lingenfelter, board member of
the organization. “Loving Day is an event that supports MAVIN’s
ongoing contributions to fighting racial prejudice and celebrating
multiracial families and communities.”

The MAVIN Loving Day celebration will feature local entertainment,
food, drinks, raffles, children’s activities, and a short
presentation. Approximately 100 people are expected to attend this
commemorative event.
