Oxepa and diarrhea

Hi,
I know this has been discussed in the past, but I like to use Oxepa in
the ICU for the SIRS/ARDS pts on the vent, however our intensivist
does not like it because of the diarrhea it causes most of the time.
AND of course, the nurses say "oh no" everytime I write for this
formula. Has anyone experimented with using Benefiber or other fiber
supplements along with the Oxepa feeds to help firm up the stool?

I have the MDs order Metamucil and Lactinex.  It seems to help.  If not, sometimes I order 1/2 critical care formula and 1/2 standard high protein fiber containing formula so that the pt is getting some fiber.

Several of the RD’s at the previous ASPEN conference in Vancouver were discussing their success with managing diarrhea with tube fed patients with a product called “Banatrol Plus”  available through Medtrition.  Does anyone have success using this product.  Have samples but have not trialled.  It contains pre-biotic and don’t know if there is any contra-indication for critically ill patients.
