Yesterday in class we were talking about the importance of this class or maybe how it could have been better structured. A couple were really downing everything about the class, not just the structure of the class but theory itself. Many people saying theory was irrelevant. Well I am opposing these ideas that all theory is irrelevant. Theories are a systematic way of understanding events behaviors and situations. This class should be the basis for almost all literature courses. It gives us something to base our writings on and gives us a whole new insight on writing. Someone yesterday said when reading for pleasure most do not read like a theorists but it is great to have the ability to if we were reading for academics. The more perspectives the better right? Theory is defined by a research site as Theory provides concepts to name what we observe and to explain relationships between concepts. Theory allows us to explain what we see and to figure out how to bring about change. Theory is a tool that enables us to identify a problem and to plan a means for altering the situation. Theory is to justify reimbursement to get funding and support - need to explain what is being done and demonstrate that it works - theory and research Theory is to enhance the growth of the professional area to identify a body of knowledge with theories from both within and with out the area of distance learning. That body of knowledge grows with theory and research. Theory guides research. . So why are theories important they help us generalize sometimes when we may be reading in too deep. This class is great. I am definitely not trying to sound like a kiss ass but this class has really helped me intellectually. In other classes I bring a whole new aspect of writing that some students do not have.
