Not sure if this link has been passed around. Google Maps has made
available their database in shapefile and KML format for specific
areas around the world, most recently Chile. The data can't be used
for commercial purposes.

Is use of map maker data subject to the terms & conditions on the download page? if so, can this data realistically be used in OSM and derived products? will OSM include the required logo? the terms and conditions contain more than just a statement about commercial use of the data.

Google restricts use of Map Maker data to non-commercial use. OpenStreetMap allows commercial use.
The other restriction is that Map Maker data can not be used for any service that might compete with Google.

This licensing difference makes the two data sources incompatible. If
Google removed the commercial use restriction and others, there would be no
problem is using both data sets together.

I suppose this is understandable, as Google is a very large company with commercial interests they are trying to defend.

OSM has a very different aim, to produce data in the commons, available to all. We think this kind of data is too important to restrict to any particular usage.

I assumed that would be the case.  The verbage is rather confusing.  Hopefully there are a few individuals that will find this dataset useful or at the least, a good reference.
