Turn your Compassion into Action

Are you someone that wanted to immediately board a plane to Haiti to help out right after the earthquake struck the country in January?

If so, come learn about the field of International Humanitarian Aid in this one-day workshop on May 22nd at PCC-Cascade in Portland, Oregon.

What: International Humanitarian Aid Workshop
When: May 22, 10AM-4PM
Where: PCC-Cascade (North Portland)
Cost: $40 (includes all workshop materials and tasty lunch catered by Deepak of The Improv Pot!)

This workshop is designed to provide participants with a practical overview of the field of international humanitarian aid. Attendees will learn about this exciting and rewarding profession through case studies, interactive group exercises, discussions and stories from the field. The workshop covers: theories and concepts of relief work, standards, assessment and response techniques, and practical issues about what it’s like to work as an international relief worker.

Most importantly, you will learn if this career is right for you and you will receive guidance on ways to pursue your first job in the field. We can also connect you with humanitarian workers around the world. This workshop is useful for people considering opportunities with the Peace Corps or faith-based humanitarian missions.

The workshop is being taught by Arif Khan, an experienced relief worker who has managed projects during armed conflicts and post-disaster situations in Indonesia, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Chad, Yemen, Burma (Myanmar) and Kenya.
