Bing bong Europe!

I'm not in a position to organise a Crisis Camp in London ATM but
there's lots of help that "Virtual Crisis Campers" can do.

The last para of Chad's message "Moving forward, the most pressing need
over the next few days/week will be to have volunteers in the European
daytime timezones to assist in curating reports. The NZ team has a few
people they plan to reach out to, but if anyone on this list in those
timezones would like to assist on monitoring the Ushahidi reports during
the night in NZ, that is the most pressing need. Please email
crisis...@gmail.com <mailto:crisis...@gmail.com> and/or Josh Forde
(both cc'd to this email) to coordinate."

Please, if you can, contact crisis...@gmail.com
<mailto:crisis...@gmail.com> and offer a bit of help.

Thanks!
Spike

All,

Wanted to pass on updates from the volunteers in New Zealand
(CrisisCampNZ) and virtual volunteers. I'll go through a status update,
and then pass on what is needed from the worldwide community:

Current status:

* CrisisCampNZ wiki page is
here: http://wiki.crisiscommons.org/wiki/CrisisCampNZ
* Quake wiki page is
here: http://wiki.crisiscommons.org/wiki/Christchurch_NZ_Earthquake_21.02.2011 and
includes conference call notes from 3 calls
* Tim McNamara, Robert Coup, Josh Forde, Nigel McNie, Jennifer
Geard, and many others are working together on the ground outside
of Christchurch - Gavin Treadgold is on the ground there for Sahana.
* Ushahidi instance is stable and currently supported by 20-30
volunteers at the moment, including programmers and people
processing reports. URL: http://eq.org.nz/main
* The Computer Science Department at Victoria University at
Wellington has offered access to a room with 16 computers for a
week (probably more if needed). There are at the moment 15
volunteers working there.
* A ticketing system has been set up for feature requests and/or
issues with the Ushahidi
instance: https://github.com/ccnz/Ushahidi_Web/issues
* There has been an ongoing Skype stream for CrisisCampNZ for about
30 hours (i.e. within an hour of the quake) - Heather Leson,
Heather Blanchard, Pascal Schuback or myself can add you in - just
let us know (of course anyone in there can, but many of you have
our Skype contacts already)
* The Ushahidi install is embedded in 2 major news websites in NZ -
Stuff and NZ Herald
* The free shortcode is enabled, working and has been distributed
via many channels, including Telecom NZ
* There are currently 312 reports approved in the system
* According to Ushahidi's internal stats, the site has received
44,000+ unique visitors and 78,000+ page views since the quake
* NZ Civil Defense is aware of the site
* New aerial imagery is not available at the moment, with cloud
cover hindering the process.

Needs:

* Moving forward, the most pressing need over the next few days/week
will be to have volunteers in the European daytime timezones to
assist in curating reports. The NZ team has a few people they plan
to reach out to, but if anyone on this list in those timezones
would like to assist on monitoring the Ushahidi reports during the
night in NZ, that is the most pressing need. Please email
crisis...@gmail.com <mailto:crisis...@gmail.com> and/or Josh
Forde (both cc'd to this email) to coordinate.

Big thanks to the all of the Ushahidi and Humanity Road folks that have
tirelessly assisted volunteers to get this install running properly and
to get folks trained.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
