Walter Sugg who was schoolmaster at the school from 1875 had a younger
sister called Elizabeth. She married a Pritchard and settled in
London.
One of her sons was a fine young man called John Harold who went off
to fight in WW1. He joined the Honourable Artillery Company and was
involved in battles near Arras, at Bullecourt, where he was killed as
a Captain, leading his men into battle on May 15th 1917.
He sang as a chorister at St Pual's Cathedral in London as a youngster
and as such is commemorated on a plaque there.
In January of this year, I (great niece of the Captain and great great
niece of Walter) was searching the interent for family tree
information and discovered that the body of JHP had been found and
identified a couple of years agho and that the MoD were searching for
relatives. I contacted them and the HAC and we are now in the process
of reburying this man with full military honours at some point int he
future in France.
You will hear more of this story, but the BBC Inside Out programme
were filming the MoD about this work so asked to put us into the
programme. The result is aired TONIGHT FEBRUARY 20TH 7.30pm although
it is regional so the two regions which are showing this are BBC WEST
MIDLANDS and BBC WEST.
I live in Surrey so will not have access to them, but if you have SKY
you can get to these regions and they should be available up to a week
on iplayer.
Thought members might like to know of the connection.
