Hello all

I have the following information from a newspaper death notice:
Died 26 March, 1834 at Chicklade Lodge near Hindon, Wilts, Eliza, wife
of John Dyer Esq, late of the Admiralty, aged 63.

John Dyer died and was buried in London in 1845, with the newspaper
notice saying "formerly of Chicklade Lodge, Wilts".

Was Eliza buried at Chicklade? Any information about her parents, her
birthplace etc from a Parish register would be wonderful. I think her
maiden name was Seager, married in London. I have found lots about
her children and her husband, especially after 1837 and through
newspaper notices etc.

Any information about Chicklade Lodge would be great too. I think I
have found it on Google as a guest house and on Google map but wonder
how I can find out about ownership etc. Is it the same as "Chicklade
House" which is mentioned later in the 1800s in death/marriage
newspaper notices?

The Dyers lived in Greenwich while he was at the Admiralty but have
many connections with Wilts around the A303. Their son John Jones
Dyer married Theresa Midlane in Mere. The Midlanes seem to have had
interests in Hants (Bedhampton mainly) as well.

Cheers, Judith Ballard, Canberra, Australia. John and Eliza are my
3xgreats

Judith,

Chicklade and Cricklade are two very different places...... at either
end of the County.

Kind regards

David

yes the "h " and the "r" on the key board are not that close to one another but I wouldnt let that worry you  in your search, so dont let the previous email put you off your passion  . i knew that you merely had a spelling error. although I did not realise  that there was a place in england called Chicklade. Is there anyone that can be more precise as to where Chicklade is (is it any where beneath the feathers or is that heathers somehere in Scotland)

Oh my goodness, poor speed reading on my part! I have actually been to
Cricklade and a very nice place it is too. The Cotswolds would have
to be my favourite place in all the world. I keep hoping to find some
ancestors there but no, they are stubbornly further south or further
north or in London.

Thanks for your replies, anyway.
