Hi guys,

For those who have retired from the sport of Rowing and have no future intentions of trying out and/or competing for the USA, please see directions below on how to remove yourself from the USADA RTP. Please pay careful attention to the policies regarding coming out of retirement.

Thanks everyone,
- Michael

Hi Michael,
To remove yourself from the pool, you have to submit your intentions to do so to USADA. Please see the bottom section of (http://www.usrowing.org/NationalTeams/AntiDopingInformation.aspxto read about the process and conditions. Please note that any information about the "ITP" does not apply to you, but anything in regards to the "RTP" or "NTP" does! Let me know if you have questions.
Best,
Liz

Hi guys,

Sorry for the additional e-mail. I have attached an e-mail thread I had with Liz with regards to HOCR and USADA. Long story short, if you plan on competing at the HOCR or any other USRowing/USOC/FISA-sanctioned event this year, it would probably be in your best interest to not retire.

Hi Michael,

Let me clarify– You were put in the RTP because you were on the 2013 National Team. After the 2014 team is named, all those who were on the 2013 team, and not the 2014 team will be removed from the RTP (so, if you don't make the team in 2014, you would no longer qualify for the RTP). Since you are only qualifying for the RTP this year, you would only need to re-enroll this year, if you chose to continue rowing. In 40 years, you wouldn't qualify for the RTP in the first place, not having been on a team for 40 years, so you would not have to re-enroll in the pool.

You should only be retiring from the pool if you are truly retiring from the sport. Recreational coxing in 40 years is fine. If you are planning to cox at any USRowing sanctioned event this year, I would definitely re-think your intentions to retire.

Best,
Liz

Dear Liz,

Apologies for the duplicate e-mail, but I have one additional question: per your explanation below, does that mean if I intend to cox for an "Alumni" boat when I am, say, 40, that I will have to re-enroll as well?

Many thanks,
- Michael

Dear Liz,

Thank you for the clarification. I did read that section careful, but was just unsure if the HOCR was a USRowing/USOC/FISA-sanctioned event, or considered an International Event.

Many thanks,
- Michael

Hi Michael,

Regardless of what boat you cox at HOCR, whether it is a national team boat or not, you will need to re-enroll. The same goes for any event sanctioned by USRowing, the USOC, or FISA. Please read our Anti-Doping page section on Retirement for complete details.

Best,
Liz

Dear Liz,

Thank you very much for your assistance. One quick question: should I be called upon to cox for the National Team (eg. LM8+) at the 2014 Head of the Charles, would the event fall under rules and regulations such that I would have to re-enroll with the USADA NTP 6 months prior to the competition?

Many thanks,
- Michael
