With regard to Brendan stating in Detroit I know a lot of people that live close and could probably provide transpo.  Looking into it

We need to confirm that the flight from Detroit can take the oars. Another rep I talked to who seemed to know a lot more seemed to believe the oars may not fit on the Korean flight because of how the cargo area is set up in the 747

We just landed in Detroit. I'll see what I can do

hey guys -

We're working on a couple of plans for oars, but right now most promising, which we'll call Option #1:

-team arrives in Detroit.  Brendan goes to Delta attendance, requests change to tomorrow night's flight to Seoul.
-Braca (or CII, not sure) gets oars to Detroit by 1:00 pm tomorrow afternoon
-Brendan picks up oars, and gets on plane, and gets to Seoul a day later than planned (but a day earlier than I will, which is a significant gain)

If that does NOT work, then I'll get the oars on Friday in Detroit and get them on the plane.

If that does NOT work, then we'll have to borrow oars and double them up with a crew that is already in Korea.  Shouldn't be impossible, just hard to coordinate schedules and such.

So far, CII and Braca don't have any spare sets in Korea that we can use.

Brendan - when you land, go to a Delta desk and ask for their assistance in switching your flight for tomorrow.  Send your new flight information to Margaux Jackson (mar...@usrowing.org) and Michael.   Crash at the Airport hotel in Detroit tonight.  Watch tv.  We'll get you information on where and when oars will be available for pick-up tomorrow (near airport terminal).  You'll need to get a cab to take you from hotel to freight pick-up for oars to terminal for check-in.

Michael - when you land in Seoul and get to the hotel, talk to Margaux Jackson (team manager) about Brendan's changed travel plans, so that the Local Organizing Committee can set up a ride for him from airport to venue and hotel.  I will also email her the details when Brendan confirms the change in planes.  Also, talk with Ellen about getting the boat rigged.  Specs for boat are 84cm spread, 42 degree angle on foostretcher (which is standard), 64 cm behind the pin for the track placement, with enough work through the pin to get the seat in front of the pin.

I'm sure this will change three or four times again before we get it sorted, so stay tuned, stay loose.  Everyone has to deal with this stuff (Tobin this morning said they had a bent rigger on their boat when they picked it up at U23's), part of racing and dealing with it gracefully gives us more adrenaline on the race course.
