CRESTWOOD NORTH NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION
MINUTES OF THE MEETING
SEPTEMBER 27, 2010
The meeting was called to order by President Frank McCrory at 6:35.
All were welcomed particularly first-time attendees.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read.
BAO: Karen Musgrove described the up-coming fundraiser for BAO:
Crestwood Crawl. This event will take place on October 9 beginning at
2:00 and will involve participants’ stopping at 7 homes in the
neighborhood to take a poker card. It will end with a party/cook out
at which time the winner will be announced. Karen asked that the NA
support this effort, in addition to attending, with a gift of $250 for
BAO. It was moved, seconded and voted without objection.
CMC STEEL: Michele Bunn in answer to questions from the group,
announced that there are several job openings at CMC but was not
specific about them.
CRESTWOOD BANNERS: List Allen reported on the work of her group in
identifying the location of the old banners and the proposed location
of both new and replacement banners in Crestwood North. She presented
a detailed map complete with flag pins to indicate such locations.
She also reported on the results of her consulting with both a company
that makes the banners and one that installs them. The total cost of
this project to install 27 banners is estimated to be $6385.50. It
was moved, seconded and voted without objection that we allocate $7000
for banner replacement.
POLICE: Received the thanks of members for better patrol of 56th
Street for speeders; addressed the concerns over abandoned cars in the
area. She explained that one should call 328-9311 to report such. An
orange sticker will be placed on the car which will be towed if not
moved within 72 hours.
WELCOME COMMITTEE: Committee met and agreed to cooperate with the
Girls Inc project CRESTWOOD AGLOW. Two members have had to opt off
the committee but their areas of welcoming have been taken over by
other members. A new source for purchase of the buckets is being
researched. The Committee is sponsoring FALL FLING in the “party
alley” on October 2 from 4 until 7 PM. A first: New neighbor
Francine Smith and her daughter, Pamela Smith, came to the meeting
specifically to say their thanks for the welcome bucket they received.
DARRELL O’QUINN: Reported on some ideas that are in initial stages
regarding how to get the word out about our neighborhood and
happenings in it. He described the existing Yahoo Group which many
are aware of. He also explained a Crestwood North Google group, for
distribution only, which has been set up. There is now a CN Facebook
which members can access. He also told of a plan to distribute a
flier door-to-door in late November to see if there are any who might
want a mailed information sheet re neighborhood activities. He
emphasized that most of this is in the idea stage and will be reported
on at later meetings.
OLD BUSINESS: There was none
NEW BUSINESS: The new owners of Crestwood Coffee, Mark Hales & Danny
Winter, asked neighborhood support for their petition to transfer the
liquor license from the previous owner to them, with no change in what
is being sold. The motion was made, seconded and voted without
objection.
Frank reported that it is time to vote on funding for the installation
and lighting of the snowflakes along Crestwood Blvd. Our half of the
cost for electricity will be about $200. Moved, seconded and votes
without objection. Our half of the cost of installation will be about
$750. Motion made, seconded and voted with objection.
TRACY HALE: Reported on Ruffner Mountain Wildflower Hike on Saturday
and on the recycling project to take place in Linn Park on October 27,
6AM to 2PM to recycle electronics and other similar items.
She also announced that CN will take part in the Yellow Pages
recycling “contest” sponsored by the city Beautification group.
Yellow page books will be collected and taken to the recycling center
between October 13 and November 17. Points will be awarded according
to total weight of books, with cash prizes of $1000, 750, 500 and
300. Details will be on Yahoo and Google groups.
WOODLAWN BUSINESS ASSOCIATION: Shannon Riley reported on the efforts
of her association to help revitalize the Woodlawn business area. She
asked for a contribution of $500 from CNA to help pay for banners to
be erected along the major gateways into Woodlawn. She described
other efforts that are being made to obtain grants to help in the
general revitalization of the area. Motion was made, seconded and
voted without objection to give $500 to Woodlawn Business Association
for new banners.
Frank announced that we had received a thank you note from Park and
Recreation for our gift to help restock East Lake for the annual
family fishing rodeo. He also announced the MPO meeting on October
20, details of which are on the Yahoo board.
Cornerstone School and Woodlawn UMC will have open house on Tuesday,
Oct 5, 4 to 6.
CANDIDATE: Theo Lawson, candidate for DA spoke.
There was a record attendance of 33, due largely to the newly erected
signs announcing meeting tonight, made and donated by a member of the
Welcome Committee.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00.
