District-wide open house planned

The Birmingham City Schools is planning a districtwide open house for
Wednesday. Nov. 17. All schools in the district will participate in
the event, which is set for 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“The open house is not just for parents, although parents are invited
to come,” said Superintendent Craig Witherspoon. “This is an
opportunity for all stakeholders to visit local schools and see what
is really happening
inside.” Witherspoon hopes business leaders, community residents,
potential participants in the Partners in Education program and others
who are interested in the school system will take advantage of the
open house. “We want to give stakeholders a chance to go into our
schools and see what actually is occurring in the classrooms. We want
them to see the quality teaching and learning that happens on a daily
basis,” he said.

The open house will be part of the district’s observation of American
Education Week.
