this morning my windows vista performed some updates. Afterwards the text in Firefix is bad, sometimes even unreadable, se exampe attached. The text is not bad in IE, but a change back is not desireble. Text was OK before Windows Update Restart. Disabling ClearType makes problem worse. I tried to reset as described on -US/kb/reset-preferences-fix-problems, no help.

one option may be to roll-back this particular update for now until there is a fix by microsoft or you could also look if there is a graphics driver update available on the website of the vendor (intel/amd/nvidia) which might also resolve this problem in some cases.

I ended up uninstalling the Windows Update kb3013455. It solved the problem. I have subsequeltly hidden the update, otherwise it will install again... I hope that when they solve the text rendering problem, the will release a new update and not rerelease the old one...

During my tries to solve the problem, I reset my Firefox installation. This meant that I loost all my setting to my "noscript" filter. I still have the backup folder from the Firefox reset. Is there some way to recower my settings for this paticular addon?

So far after installation computer sitting in idle, not connected to internet yet im using 1.58GB of RAM (Thats just gross). Could you imagine back when people had xp the most ram you had with a stock pc was usually 512MB of ram, how could people upgrade there pc's take a look at the pentium 1 you had and upgrade path from windows 95 all the way up to windows 2000 on a p1, but in 2006 that was a huge jump xp-vista 512MB-to pretty much 4GB of ram to run smooth.

I never got vista fully updated to today's updates but ive notice that after using windows 7 after a clean install its using a little over a gig of ram and after it fully updated with office 2016 installed and ccleaner ran and defragged win7 sits in idle at 800 to 900MB of ram depending on what drivers are installed. So i think after certain updates it patch's stuff like that.

The only Windows Vista computer I built at the home was built entirely around the problems I had heard about Vista and I NEVER ONCE had an issue with it running. The ONLY reason I replaced and dismantled that PC was because Vista only supports an outdated version of Google Chrome and only goes up to IE 9, which is getting phased out.

In fact, that Vista PC was dismantled so I could reuse the parts. I took the 2x2GB DDR2-800 sticks out and used it to rebuild a similarly old Dell Optiplex for someone who was paying me to do it. They had Core 2 Duos as well, got a bump from their old 2GB to 4GB total and I stuck Window 10 Pro on both of them.

The Core 2 E7300 I had went into an E-machines small form-factor PC who's existing Pentium dual-core processor went belly-up and no longer booted. That processor dropped right into that LGA775 socket and with a new pair of 2GB sticks, the system runs Windows 10 as well. I'm half tempted to move my mother's games and profile over to it and let her use THAT as her PC so I can get my gaming rig back.

But to be specific, I didn't run Windows 7 until I had built my first REAL gaming rig: centered around the Intel Core i7-860 2.8GHz quad-core. That system was a beast and still is. My mother is using it right now and it's severely overpowered for what she does (2006 puzzle game, e-mails and Facebook with the occasional radio stream playing in the background). That PC has also been upgraded to Windows 10 after I included the 250 GB Samsung 850 EVO as a boot (C:) drive.

That is my view on it as well.
I had no choice but to have a Vista system at an early stage, for DirectX 10 development.
So I ran Vista (the x64 Ultimate version) pretty much from day 1.
I also used a GeForce 8800GTS320, which was a card that was considered 'troublesome' in Vista.

I have to say, there were some teething problems, especially with the Explorer, where copying files sometimes took ages, and that sort of thing.
But overall I didn't have that many problems, even at first. It certainly was usable.

By the time the first Service Pack came around, all problems were pretty much solved, and it actually was quite a nice OS to use, and I never really looked back to XP anymore (aside from having to test my code on it).

Used Vista for years and I was quite a happy user.
Actually I went back from Windows 7 to Vista for a while because AMD wouldn't let me have overscan for certain resolutions in Windows 7, which it did allow in Vista.

Vista is not compatible with my asus via p4m890 motherboards, apparently support was broken since SP1. Aero crashes and the computer hangs in 3d games no matter which graphics card. Graphics cards appear as removable devices, tried a geforce 7300 and a radeon x550. Both XP and 7 run without major problems.

I'm running Vista, fully updated. I have two windows open in firefox, both with a dozen or so tabs. I was shifting them around, and accidentaly moved one about halfway off screen. Now it's stuck there, and whenever I try to move it back, it moves slightly, then freezes and won't let me do anything until I hit ctrl-alt-del; then when I hit cancel and get back to my desktop, the window has gone back to it's original offscreen position. I've tried closing everything, running C-Cleaner, and restarting my computer, but no luck. The window comes back in the same place and glitches the same when I try to move it. I can move the other Firefox window without problems, as well as Word and Digsby windows. Any ideas?

It seems to have fixed whatever the glitch was, because even though at first it refused to restore down, when I tried it again a few minutes later it restored down and let me move it around just fine. Odd.

I am aware the staff here must be swamped and even more so with the holidays upon us all. It was not intended as impatience as much as merely a wish to be proactive in catching the eye of members who might have experience and insight to share on this particular issue, rather than just waiting silently until my post is buried and dropping off the board completely. My apologies if you took it to be anything else.

I am already subscribed to the topic, and as noted in my initial post both my OS and browser are fully updated. The problem seems isolated to Vista OS, as it does not occur on the same settings on Windows 7.

Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention! I have put this in front of our team which has been working on that editor and as soon as I have any additional information from them I will let you know!

When I initially noticed the buttons displaying wrong on WP (the issue I reported here), I tried to backtrack the manual font override in Firefox to see if the issue was related to the forced font selection. It does not seem to be, though. Even with the settings back to default (websites choosing fonts freely) the WP button still display wrong in Firefox on Vista OS.

Thank you for the quick response. However, as I explained (perhaps not so well or not clearly enough), the problem I am experiencing with WP arose LONG before I changed my browser settings. The onky reason I made those changes to begin with was because websites (WP included) were not displaying correctly. Changing the settings resolved some of the problems, but not all of them, including the missing WP editor buttons.

I really wish now I had not sought to add that information, as clearly it has derailed this exchange somewhat away from the actual issue. Or perhaps it is my command of English as a second language or tech speak which are inadequate. Either way, the fault is mine entirely.

Firstly, please allow me to reiterate that I very much appreciate any and all help the WP staff or forum members can provide. It is a wonderful service and one that is time and time again puts WP far beyond its competitors.

That said, I fear the point of what I have sought to express has gotten lost in the process of weeding out a potential cause for this problem. So, please, allow me to attempt once more to clarify the problem.

1) The issues on WP arose BEFORE I made any changes to how fonts are displayed in the browser.
2) The problem with the WP buttons persists regardless of whether the browser is set to custom fonts or not. On either setting, they malfunction.
3) Switching to custom fonts resolved all missing body text issues on all sites, including WP (except for the editor buttons, and as stated in #2 they are affected either way).

So, in other words, I HAVE no issue with multiple sites. I DID, and it was resolved. No other sites or editors display this problem, or anything similar to it, in any of my browsers on any settings. The only reason I mentioned it at all was, as also stated, to guess at a time frame in reply to your queries, and to make it known that the option of switching font settings had been tried and proved to have no effect on the problem.

The problem IS limited to WP and WP only, and therefore it was and is my hope that it will be addressed based on those facts, rather than simply dismissing it on inaccurate premises. For my part, if I have been unclear or given cause for misunderstandings in my replies, it was unintentional and I apologise.

If the malfunctioning WP editor buttons is not an issue the staff or tech support here can address or suggest solutions for, I understand completely, and will indeed seek assistence elsewhere, so that I can continue to use my WP blog.
