In the beginning, the DCU animated original movies were mostly stand-alone (Superman: Doomsday, Wonder Woman, Batman: Under the Red Hood) or formed their own brief line-up like Year One combined with the two-part Dark Knight Returns.
Just like the Superman/Batman moviesnote and Superman: Brainiac Attacks in regards to Superman; Batman: Gotham Knight, the Arkham games and DC Universe Online in regards to Batman; and DC Universe Online later on and the DC Nation Wonder Woman shorts in regards to Wonder Woman, Tim Daly, Kevin Conroy, and Susan Eisenberg reprise their respective roles from the DCAU as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. Michael Rosenbaum also voices the Flash, but this Flash is Barry Allen and not Wally West like the Flash he voiced in Justice League. Other voice actors include Bumper Robinson (Transformers: Animated) as Cyborg, Paul Blackthorne (The Dresden Files) as Metallo, Carlos Alazraqui as Bane, Grey DeLisle as Lois Lane, and Claudia Black as Cheetah.
The movie starts with Batman tracking down the Royal Flush Gang, a group of supervillains who dress in a playing card theme, and going in by himself before the rest of the League arrives. This leads right into Mirror Master using the Batmobile's rearview mirror so he can break into the Batcave and the Batcomputer.
Warner Bros. hired comic book writer Jeph Loeb to write a screenplay in the late-1980s, but the outing never materialized.[1] Development for a film adaptation was revived in late 2004 after the studio was impressed with David S. Goyer's script for Batman Begins (2005), and he was offered the choice of a Flash or Green Lantern film adaptation.[2] In December that same year, it was announced that Goyer would be writing, producing and directing The Flash.[3] According to Goyer, the film would have focused on Wally West,[4] and he approached his Blade: Trinity co-star Ryan Reynolds for the role.[2][5] Goyer's script, which he tonally compared to Sam Raimi's work on the first two movies of the Spider-Man trilogy,[2] was influenced by seminal comic book runs by Mike Baron, Mark Waid, and Geoff Johns.[6][7] By February 3, 2007, however, Goyer dropped out of the project, citing creative differences with the studio.[8]
