Our concert features Missa Sub tuum praesidium by the Flemish composer, Jacob Obrecht ( 1457 – 1505). This exceptional mass is unusual in many ways, starting with only three voices and adding a new voice to each movement of the mass, ending with 7 parts. Above all five movements, the sopranos sing the beautiful Marian antiphon Sub tuum praesidium in its entirety, and fragments of other Marian hymns are interspersed throughout the last three movements. The result is an extraordinarily mesmorising work, with long melodic polyphonic lines racing below a tranquil top line.
Polifemy is delighted to perform its concert of Marian motets tum etiam homines (and also with men) in honour of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
We hope you can join us.
