Mr. Brodeur has served as the principal of Caruso Middle School in Deerfield Public School District 109 since 2021. There, he implemented the Caruso Way, a Tier 1 social-emotional learning initiative that positively impacted student and staff behavior. He reimagined the building leadership team to better align with the School Improvement Plan and supported the implementation of a less restrictive special education model. His efforts included a $6.5 million auditorium renovation and a school-wide remodel, significantly enhancing the learning environment.
At Caruso Middle School, Mr. Brodeur was known for his commitment to improving communication and transparency among all stakeholders and for creating professional development opportunities that led to meaningful curriculum and instructional improvements. His leadership extended to mentoring assistant principals and student service coordinators, supporting data-driven decision-making, and fostering a collaborative school culture.
In addition to his role at Caruso, Mr. Brodeur has been an adjunct professor at North Central College in Naperville, developing and teaching courses in Elementary and Secondary Art Education Methods. He also has experience as the principal of Freedom Middle School in Berwyn South School District 100 from 2020 to 2021, where he developed protocols for the safe return to learning during the pandemic, rebranded the school vision, and established foundational processes for MTSS.
From 2016 to 2020, Mr. Brodeur served as an assistant principal at Morton West High School in J Sterling Morton High School District 201. In this role, he focused on expanding opportunities for underrepresented students and increasing 9th grade on-track rates from 6 percent to 9 percent within two years through social-emotional academic interventions. His work also included supporting the building-wide PBIS program, coordinating academic interventions, and managing large-scale events and activities.
From 2014 to 2016, Mr. Brodeur was the Dean of Students, Director of Student Life, and Director of the Summer Sports Clinic at Regina Dominican High School in Wilmette. He also served as an art teacher from 2012 to 2014 at Naperville High School and from 2009 to 2012 at Oak Lawn Community High School.
Throughout his career, Mr. Brodeur has been actively involved in various committees and professional organizations, including the Illinois Principal Association - Lake Region, where he currently serves as Director Elect. His dedication to equity and excellence in education is evident in his committee work and leadership roles.
Mr. Brodeur brings a wealth of experience in fostering a positive school culture, academic excellence, and community engagement. He is known for his clear communication, passion for bringing joy into the school community, and ability to support and elevate those around him.

On Monday, April 29, 2024, the U-46 Board of Education reached a settlement agreement with former BHS Principal Mike Demovsky, which concludes his employment with School District U-46. We understand that this was a difficult decision for the Board and those involved in this matter, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of our community during this time.
An important step toward moving forward is selecting a new principal who exemplifies the mission and values of School District U-46. This leader will play a crucial role in our healing process and in guiding our school toward future accomplishments.
