For each security you want to appear on the Watch List, select the box in its Watch List column and ensure these securities do not have the Hide box checked. This puts the securities on your watch list and makes them visible in security selection boxes elsewhere in Quicken.

If the Watch List is not shown, select Customize then Accounts and select Watch List. If you have recently added the securities to Quicken, you may also need to select the Securities tab and then Select all or select the watch list securities individually if they are not already selected.

Hi, I'm new to Simplifi but a long-time Quicken user. I'm having a hard time conceptualizing the differences between 'Spending Plan' and 'Watchlists'. Is it true that if you set up a spending plan, there really is no need for 'watchlist' items - because the monitoring is in the Spending Plan? I see notifications can be enabled for each individually.

Badges are awarded a few days into the month to make sure all your transactions have a chance to clear, which also gives you a chance to review your spending plan results and make any adjustments you need to.

Now, you can manage all of your rules directly under Settings. Just navigate to your Simplifi Settings and choose Rules. Add, edit, or delete your rules, and tell Quicken Simplifi to apply those changes forward and/or backward. Simplifi will apply your changes however you tell it to, updating all your applicable transactions automatically.

See how you did in the month that just ended. See your top categories, top payees and how things changed vs. the previous month. Make sure to leave us feedback on this feature by clicking on the icons at the bottom of the page.

Being aware of where you stand financially is crucial, no matter what your goals are. Did you know that with Quicken Simplifi, you can stay on top of your finances in less time than it takes to brew a cup of tea?

See your coins, the current price per coin, and their total value, just like any other holdings. All your investment accounts are grouped together so you can see your complete portfolio in one place, from your personal brokerage account to your 401k.

If a car has been in the shop several times in the last 6 months, it might be time to look at buying a new one. By analyzing your past spending periodically, you can plan ahead as your situation changes. And if the most recent month went well, you can decide together what to do with that extra cash!

Did you have enough money set aside last year to pay for things like your family vacation, your holiday spending, and your taxes? Align on a budget for the coming year so you know what you need to spend and save. Then, set up your savings goals so you can track them together.

Now, Quicken Simplifi can alert you about that too. If your upcoming bills are projected to put your bank account below $500 (or $300, or any other number you set), Quicken Simplifi will alert you ahead of time so you can address the problem before it happens.

So, what happens if you get paid on a predictable schedule, but the amount can change? Maybe you get a weekly paycheck but your hours change from week to week, or you get checks for sales commissions on a quarterly basis. What do you do then?

Watchlists give you an easy way to watch your spending in a certain category, tag, or store (payee). Just set up a watchlist, and Quicken Simplifi will track that spending in its own special display, right on your dashboard, making it easy to see without having to dive into your reports.

Quicken's checkbook register makes for a familiar environment to begin computerized recordkeeping. Although Quicken includes only home and general business income and expense categories, farm income and expense categories are easily added. Import options allow you to add a farm category list created at Oklahoma State University that matches the tax Schedule F, minimizing the effort required to develop a beginning chart of accounts.

Quicken's "tag" feature can be used with categories to further identify and sort transactions to allow cash reports by enterprise, by partnership share, or by farm. Splits of transactions allow a specific transaction to be divided into numerous components with different category and/or tag assignments. For example, a check written to a farm supply store can be separated into expenses for fertilizer for wheat, feed for hogs, and fuel for checking cattle.

Built-in financial planning and monitoring features are also useful. Loans can be amortized with scheduled payments retained for future use. Comparison reports highlight budget versus actual figures. Quicken files can be imported easily into QuickBooks, a popular small business accounting package, if the producer later requires a more sophisticated financial record keeping system.

For agricultural users, a major shortcoming in Quicken is the inability to easily summarize physical data associated with individual financial transactions, making it hard to integrate production and financial records in reports and analysis. Within Quicken, physical quantities and price per unit information can be stored in memo lines and exported to spreadsheets for further summary and analysis.

Deciding whether to use Quicken or QuickBooks is a matter of your accounting needs and abilities. Some accountants suggest clients use QuickBooks; however, not everyone is comfortable with accounting terminology or procedures. The following paragraphs highlight some of the differences in Quicken Deluxe compared to QuickBooks Pro (these versions offer the most features and flexibility). Learn more with the Quicken or QuickBooks: What's the Best Choice for Agricultural Producers? factsheet.

First, consider your computer accounting skills. If you can navigate through basic computer programs, know what a file is, can operate a mouse, know the X in the corner of a window closes it, and know how to write a check, then you can learn to use Quicken. QuickBooks is also user-friendly if you understand accounting terminology. However, with QuickBooks, it is important to get the set-up right from the beginning. Quicken is little more flexible and can grow as you learn to use it. Consider your accounting needs. What do you expect from the program? If you need to track simple income and expense records on a cash basis then Quicken is easier to set up, simpler to use, and less expensive. QuickBooks can be used for single-entry cash accounting, but it is intended to function as a double-entry system for business.

Most producers need only one Quicken file. Farm and non-farm expenses can be separated using tags. Hopefully, you have at least two checking accounts: a separate checking account for the farm and one for the family. In farm businesses, funds are often transferred between the personal and farm accounts. For transfers to be recorded, the personal and farm accounts need to be set up within one file.

More than one file is appropriate if personal and business transactions are kept entirely separate and money is never transferred between accounts. If you have a non-farm business (say a car wash or a franchise) in addition to a farm business, again it would be best if you had separate checking accounts for the two businesses plus one for personal use. You might want to have a separate file for the farm business to highlight its separateness for business management and tax purposes. But, if money is transferred between businesses and accounts, it is possible using separate tags and checking accounts within one file to create reports for the separate businesses for management and tax purposes.
