Max becomes more upset about how Duke behaves. Duke accidentally breaks a ball Buddy found, which Katie thought it's their missing ball. When they are about to sleep, Duke sleeps where Max is supposed to sleep and snores. The next morning, Chloe advises him that he needs to do more or else his life would be ruined. On the other hand, Duke eats Max's dog food; so Max begins to threaten Duke by breaking things in the apartment and later treats Duke as a servant when he, Buddy, Mel and several other dogs are taken to the dog park.
Parents need to know that The Secret Life of Pets 2 is the sequel to the 2016 animated comedy about what pets do when their humans aren't home. It continues the story of Max (now voiced by Patton Oswalt) as his owner gets married and has a baby. A subplot has Snowball (Kevin Hart) and new dog Daisy (Tiffany Haddish) working together to rescue an abused tiger from a Russian circus that has menacing wolves and a cartoonishly villainous lion tamer. The dark humor and peril are toned down from the original, with more of a shift to slapstick violence that's meant to be funny. Animals punch and throw knives at one another, and a bad guy is hit by a car, but no one is ever really injured. Language includes "pissed," put-downs ("jerk," "idiot," "stupid," etc.), and potty humor ("turd"). And there's a scene in which a cat is high on catnip. Messages for parents revolve around Max's anxiety about keeping his owner's toddler safe; his helicopter ways are questioned by a dog named Rooster (Harrison Ford), who's more of a let-them-get-hurt-and-learn kind of canine. For kids, though, the main moral of the story is to face and embrace the changes life inevitably brings. Meanwhile, the pets who are left behind get involved in two different rescue missions, which are even lighter on messages and heavier on humor. Pomeranian Gidget (Jenny Slate) must recover a coveted toy from a nest of cats, which means going undercover as a feline -- complete with training from the aloof and seditious puss Chloe (Lake Bell). The other team is led by Snowball (Kevin Hart), who, believing he's a superhero because his child owner dresses him as one, is given a mission by a new dog, shih tzu Daisy (Tiffany Haddish). Haddish proves once again that she's the perfect foil to Hart, and their chemistry creates lots of laughs while also showcasing their unique sense of teamwork. People who watched the original The Secret Life of Pets generally fell into two camps: those who loved it and those who found it to be average (and maybe a little too scary). This sequel is a slight departure and most likely will result in those camps switching their opinions.
At the end of the film, Max says, "you never know what life is going to throw at you," and that you can deal with it by "running away from it" or "run at it." What does he mean? Have you faced any big choices?
After daydreaming of what he and Gidget could do as friends - by letting Gidget fly with him on his back and him catching squirrels easier - Tiberius decides to willingly help the pets search for a missing Max. He delivers Ozone to Gidget who ruthlessly interrogates him for Max's location. Gidget then recruits other pets from the apartment and they are led by Pops, an old Basset Hound who knows New York well.
After the pets track Max and Duke across the alleyways of downtown New York to Brooklyn, he flies Gidget over Manhattan to the Brooklyn Bridge to stop The Flushed Pets' attacks against Max. After that, he flies back to the apartment to meet his owner.
Ten years after the events of the previous two films, Max and Duke have become steadily weary of dealing with the same issues of mundane life and yearn for things to at least be simple around the house and not hectic. That opportunity comes sooner than expected as Katie has booked their family and the family next door a summer vacation to Florida for three weeks.
Arriving at the Bay County Animal Control for the final time, the two of them, drop off the puppies, trusting Fergus to take extra care of them, raising them better than they might. On the way home, Ted bids the pets farewell, but Max offers him a place to stay, telling him that he can do so much more than staying on the run, Ted accepts the offer at first, realising that he can find a new purpose in life in New York City. Entering the apartment, everyone of the residents grows accustomed to Ted and welcomes him into the family, however as he's about to change his mind and leave the building, but realises that he's found his place in society and there's more to it than meets the eye, as Max tells him before going to bed. Cutting to twenty years later, Max, Duke and Ted's collars are in a box in the shoe closet, indicating that they passed away, thanks to old age. Living their lives as what they were born to be.
