Hey guys,

I wasn't really sure what to expect when joining this course, but now
I feel as though I'm beginning to wrap my head around how a MOOC
works. Did any one else feel the same as me?

Now that I have created my blog, started a Diigo account, began
reading course materials for this week and started engaging with my
fellow MOOCers, It seems as though it is all coming together.

My blog is www.aarongoestocollege.tumblr.com. Does anyone have any
advice for me being a first time MOOCer? I really just want to make
sure I am doing this all right and there isn't anything I'm missing.

I'm looking forward to making connections with many of you and
engaging in our course material.

Happy MOOCing!

-Aaron

yeah - don't try to get everything, immerse, take in what you can
without your head spinning around, follow what interests, don't worry
about what you can.... like streetcars, another one will come along

Aaron

I'm also a first timer, there's so many things I want to do and now
that the course has started I feel strange.
This is how it is I suppose with new courses, with anything new. I
think we'll get used to it sooner or later.

Here's my blog http://tamingthewind.tumblr.com/ . I'm checking your
page now!

Cheers

I could not get your blog link to work- can you check it?

So glad you're enjoying the MOOC! I'm sure you'll enjoy the theme of
next week- connectivism.

Is this your blog? http://congregations-vagrant.tumblr.com/post/9427843242/aaron-goes-to-college-post-one
I your link didn't work, but found the above in a search.

In my first MOOC I had a hard time making myself skip some things at
first. It was such a rush, and I didn't want to miss a thing.
Impossible. Eventually I was able to come to terms with enjoying what
I found, skimming over a lot, and concentrating on a few connections
with other people.

Hello Aaron,
Yep, I am a first timer. I think that I am at the same stage where you
are in the world of MOOC except that I didn't create a Diigo account
yet. I am slowly beginning to find my way around. I read a blog (I
guess) by Steven Downes explaining how to be involved in a MOOC, which
was very informative. I think the most important thing he mentioned
was the overload of information. I was beginning to feel extremely
confused until I read that, and understood that it is Ok to filter and
decide what information you may need and that you are free to chose
how to use it. New concept there. So Good luck, hope things work out
you.

Agreed! The overflow of info is intense, but I'm managing by picking
and choosing. Found any good blogs or sources to connect with?

Nicole, I think your comments would be very helpful to a lot of
participants ... would you consider adding them in the Start a
Discussion area if I start it off with "How are you doing now that we
are into the second MOOC week?"

Hi Carol, Sure why not. I had trouble downloading an important file
for elluminate live. Last night an IT brother-in-law remotely
corrected the problem so I hope to join the session tomorrow.

Morning Aaron,
Found your blog. Found a few other interesting blogs, but I keep
losing them because I forget to bookmark them. I'll get it right one
of these days.

Diigo is the way to go ... try it, you'll like it!

A Diigo account (free) is an excellent way to keep track of the
articles, blogs and all information you think you want to review
again, or pass on to others in the MOOC. It is very easy to set it up
and tag each entry ... if you tag those we think might be interesting,
make sure you use #CMC11 as well as other identifying category tags.
My Diigo account is a lifesaver ... I save too much! You can also
look into Delicious and Zotero for other good saving and finding
systems.

I try to tag diligently and have noticed that other moocs have set up
group Diigo accounts ~ looked for a CMC11 one to save there and add
feed to reader. There's still the tag feed though....
http://www.diigo.com/tag/CMC11

I save too much too, mostly on Delicious though since that's where I
started and my links reside (a cast of thousands). Recent changes make
it less useful than previously but that seems to be improving, miss
the bulk edit feature.
