Elizabeth Zilinski of the Corinne T. Smith Animal Center makes the
following request:

We are an unlimited intake shelter in Brownwood, TX. This year we will
be having our annual Woofstock event, except more awesome. That’s
because this year is our 35th anniversary, and we’re planning on
having a party for the whole community that will roll together
Woofstock, Barktober Fest, and the 35th Anniversary Celebration. This
event happens in the fall. A google search of Woofstock will reveal
Woofstock events all over the country supporting animal shelters. Last
year, ours involved contest, giveaways, outdoor grilling, food
vendors, face painters, etcetera in the park. Barktober fest is
usually something of the same. You can go to
http://www.barktoberfest.org/
to get an idea of what this event entails.
My idea (and we’re going to be brainstorming this in the coming weeks)
is to do a week-long Barktober Fest involving local bars and eateries,
maybe make glossy paper beer cozies or coasters with our animals on
it, where a drink-priced donation gets you a Barktober Fest ticket,
and then that weekend do the Woofstock event, where people can use
their Barktober Fest tickets towards prizes/raffles/etcetera or a
gigantic gourmet beer basket, I don’t know yet. :) The Woofstock event
is a one-day thing on a Saturday, but we might be able to make it work
for a few days longer.
We might celebrate our anniversary by lowering adoption prices and
redoing our owner reclaim policy.
We need somebody who can design some fun, colorful posters, fliers,
tickets, web images, and postcards (and maybe beer-related things?)
for these events. We will print them here in Brownwood, but need the
designs. The person(s) who designs the items will be credited on the
copyright and given props on our website, plus they’ll have the
satisfaction of knowing they’re helping us reach our goal of becoming
a no-kill shelter.
I would love it, too, if somebody could make us a new logo in
celebration of our anniversary. I think the old logo was a cut-and-
paste job from some clipart, but I could be wrong. Our old logo is
here:
http://ctsanimalcenter.org/images/logo.gif. It’s off-center;
it’s boring; I don’t even like the font. We need a logo that
represents us not just as a cat and dog intake shelter, but as a
community center where cats and dogs can come for TLC, whether they
are here for adoption or here as a temporary service to their
guardians. The current logo is just a cat and a dog with our name in a
circle around it. The dog is just standing there. So is the cat.
They’re thinking to themselves, “why is this circle of text around us
not centered?” They should be thinking, “Is this person looking at the
logo going to adopt us?” I don’t know how to explain it better than
that. :) More power to you if you can come up with a motto for our
shelter. Our mission statement and goals are on our website to give
you an idea of what we’re about.
The website was put together by me pretty quickly because the old one
was so outdated and clunky. It uses a template and does its function
well, but I’d like a more colorful redesign of that as well. I’ll
probably put that together myself, but if someone is inspired to do
that, too, well, heck, go for it! Copyright for the design would go to
you. I’m working on new content for the site, and I have to update the
menu bars on every page every time I add a new section.
So, that’s it. I know it’s a lot. More so because we need it to be
done pro-bono. Any one who steps up for any of these projects will get
thousands upon thousands of good karma points!
