Looking for a new non-digital audio speakers for my computer...

Hello!

As of last night, it looks like my old Klipsch ProMedia v2-400's
subwoofer from 1999 is getting worse. Now, it can't play low frequency
bass very well. I tried a MacBook Pro and it outputted the same bass
problem. I unplugged all the speakers except the open with control pod
and I still heard the subwoofer rattling badly inside, and very little
bass. :( If I turn down/off bass on my soundc ard, then I do not hear
this loud and annoying rattling. I checked all the cables. I did notice
if I wiggle the power cable behind the subwoofer, it makes noises. Is
that normal?

But then, the speakers is over a decade old. I think it is time to find
a new speaker set. I looked at my local retail stores for Klipsch
ProMedia 2.1 speakers (realized I don't really need four or more
speakers), but no one seems to have them like Best Buy.

Does anyone know of good non-digital (still want to use regular plugs
for anything like TVs, stereo, players, etc.) bassy speakers (2.1 is
fine since I can't hear directional and never really needed a 4.1 or
higher setup) that will do well with my computers for gaming, movies, TV
shows, videos, music, etc.? I like it bassy! It should be able to handle
very low frequency without distortions like my Klispch speakers when
they didn't have problem. I am also using them mainly on my PC with a
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card. Also, I would like to see
and hear the new speaker sets in person before buying one.

Thank you in advance. :)

I have Creative 7.1 surround speakers, although using in 2.1 mode right now.
Lovely range, never clips on anything until it's distorting anyway. Can get
very very loud without any problems and I now use the setup instead of a
guitar amp too. Probably as loud as a 30w combo amp with better bass
response.

If I'm playing music through it, you can still hear the bass outside the
house and we have stone walls 2 feet thick.

None shown there. I've just spent some time looking it up as I couldn't
remember which model speakers they are; it's the Creative Inspire T7900.

http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/other-products/creative-inspire-t7900/

I'm not sure if they will still be available near to you. The great thing
about them is the inclusion of 2 speakers in the main surround speakers (i.e
the main 3.5 inch plus a 1 inch tweeter) in addition to a proper sub woofer.
I did used to have cheaper 2.1 setup, but these blew me away. I even posted
about it on here.

For some reason, I can only find them from Australian eBay sellers or
Australian shops now (perhaps they are only available in Australia :) )

Anyhow, looking at the current Creative offerings the sub woofer is smaller
and there are no tweeters in the other speakers. Sorry if this isn't much
use, but perhaps something like eBay or Craigslist might bring something up.
I remember I bought them specifically becuase the bang for buck seemed much
higher than anything else available.

It doesn't look like it is sold anymore. Oh well! Were there any
equilavent models?

Oh well. I don't shop online with eBay, Craig's List. I do buy from
local retail stores.

Bose Companion 3 Series 2 sounds interesting. Lots of positive reviews
and people seem to love it.

I'm not sure but I think that Klipsch is now making the ProMedia 2.1
systems again. For a while they didn't have them on their website, but
now they do. I would never trade my ProMedia 2.1 for anything else. I've
never heard a set of speakers this small sound so good, and the amount
of power is amazing. I also love the headphone jack and line in on the
right side speaker pod. Look on line and see if you find them. I would
never pay what a place like BB would charge. I've had mine for about 3
years and so far so good. I don't crank them up much, I usually play
using earbuds (the family doesn't like hearing all the killing)
Good luck I hope you can find them. JLC

Expensive indeed. Do they have them in local stores so I can see and
hear? I never heard of these companies.

I read and see a lot of positive reviews on Bose Companion 3 Series II
2.1:
http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/speakers/computer_speakers/companion_3/index.jsp
... Best Buy has it for $225 (a bit pricey but I will buy it if it is
good/better than my old Klipsch ProMedia v2-400 set). Any opinions on
this speaker set?

Hmm, it looks like Logitech Z-2300 will be my first choice now:

I hope to decide and get one by this weekend. Other feedbacks are
welcomed. Having no bass is not fun. :)
