Problem with CD Setting

Whenever I open MusicMatch 9 (windows 98se) the cd setting on the volume
control becomes active (unmuted) and the volume is set to the highest level.
This doesn't happen with any other player but MM tech support has no answer.
Is there any way to keep the CD setting MUTED when MM opens? This causes
unnecessary noise in the audio output.
