I recently hooked up my joystick to my gameport on my SBLIVE value card
however it keeps on saying it's not connected, I checked the drivers in the
device manager and it says everything is working, I even reinstalled them, I
also checked the joystick, and it works fine on my other computer, What
could be wrong??

I have the same problem. Look at this excerpt from my C:\WINDOWS\CTSYN.INI:

[ctsyn.drv]
OPLPort=388
MPUPort=330
SBPort=220
SBIRQ=7
SBDMALO=1
SBDMAHI=5
SBEnable=false
JoyPort=200
JoyEnable=false
Waveset=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\default.ecw
PCIPort=d000
PCIIRQ=5

[SBEINIT]
CONFIG=CTSYN.DRV

If I edit the JoyEnable to true and reboot, the joystick works. The next
time I reboot LiveWare disables the joystick again.

For Creative: WHY? I am using the Nov 99 drivers and LiveWare on a Live
MP3 purchased in December.

May be unrelated, but I had problems with DirectX7 and my joysticks. I
installed DX7A and everything works now.

I fixed my problem by making CTSYN.INI Read-Only and rebooting a couple of
times. Obviously this is a workaround.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Reference is made to your email received on 10/01/2000.

With regards to your problems, it is correct to say that certain digial
joysticks uses the MIDI port for transfer of data to the CPU. A standard
gameport only supports 2 sets of X and Y, and 4 buttons- a total of 2
joysticks. If more inputs are required, eg, pedals, 8 buttoned joysticks,
you will have to find other means to transfer the data to the system. The
MIDI port is one of them. Do refer to your joystick, manufacturer for an
answer in this issue.

If you are not having any MIDI devices connceted to your joystick port, or
if these MIDI devices are inactive when you are using the joystick, you
should have no problems in getting the joystick to run. However, you may
have to remove the joystick should you wish to use the MIDI devices as it
is now configured not to transfer MIDI data but for the joystick drivers to
'talk 'to the digital joystick. Or you may wish to stick to simply removing
the device when the other device is in use.

Attached is a diagram of the a standard MIDI/gameport joystick port in BMP
format for your reference.

With regards to your problems, Microsoft has the following acticles on the
Sidewinder joysticks which you may find helpful:
