I have my PS2 connected to the optical in on the LiveDrive IR that came with
my SBlive 5.1 platinum and i was wondering if there is any way to get the
card to decoded the AC3 signal from the PS2 because it says on creatives web
site(which doesn't count for much) that the S/PDIF and Optical in's are
capable of supporting the AC3 signal but nothing about being able to Decode
it, If someone knows How or even if its possible to have the card decode
from the Optical in because this would be the only way to get true surround
sound from that signal because i have to have the card decode the signal
because i'm using analog 5.1 speakers

Thanks

The told me that it will decode an analog signal, but not digital.

1. No, that's not supported.

2. As far as I can determine, it's because of the automatic hardware sample
rate converters that operate on input sources, _which_can't_be_disabled_.
Because of this I don't expect AC3 from external inputs to ever work with
EMU10K1-based soundcards.

3. However, CL has said they expect it in the next version of the drivers.
We'll see.

4. The LiveDrive S/PDIF and Optical inputs support AC3 "Bypass" which means
they support AC3 going into them and coming out the corresponding
LiveDrive outputs in that mode. It's just switching things so a direct
connection is made within the LiveDrive. That only works with external
decoders.
