My girlfriend plays and teaches piano. She also loves going to concerts and
listening to works by various composers. In addition, she's a member of various
choirs. However, whilst I like listening to music, I'm not really an
enthusiast. In fact, being honest, I don't know anything about the subject!

It's almost Christmas and I need to find a suitable present. Since my
girlfriend loves music so much, I think that it would be nice to get her
something piano-orientated ...or maybe singing orientated!? My budget is £50
($100). I would be very grateful for any advice.

I've had 2 ideas already ...but I don't know if they're good or not.
1. I remember seeing a programme on TV about 10 years ago which showed people
using a computer to compose or record music. I'm sure that this idea has been
developed significantly since then. Is it worthwhile and what would I need to
get? She already has a computer (233Mhz with 128mb RAM). Do I just need a card?
If so, which one?? She had a basic keyboard at the moment. I think it's a
yamaha and she's planning on purchasing an electric piano next year. Will these
items be compatible with the IT equipment?

2. Since I really know nothing about linking pianos to PCs, I thought about
getting her a good sound card (such as the Creative Audigy) and a microphone. I
think that this would allow her to record her piano playing and singing. Does
this work? Is it worthwhile? Would she enjoy it??

I know that these ideas are probably rubbish but I just don't know what a young
musician would like. She's 22 years old by the way! Please help!!
