Hi I've got a SB 16. I am trying to set the high dma channel between 5-7.
Somehow, it wouldn't
because something in the system are using those high dma channel.

I have tried everything to find out what by pulling the NIC card out, remove
the IDE HD, CDROM,
and still same problem.

Any other suggestions?
thanks
shane

Try pulling out the sound card and booting up. Go into your device manager
and double click on the computer at the top of the list. Put the dot into
DMA and check and see what is using these resources. After you have
determined what is using the resources then you can start to decide what to
do.

Which motherboard are you using? See if it's bios supports manual allocation
of resources for PNP devices. This may not seem appropriate, but it may
allow you to specify that PNP devices won't be allocated the DMA channels,
thus leaving them for your sound card.

I am using DFI motherboard P2XBL rev D
So are you saying I should find the IRQ5 in resources and remove the PnP
support
and change it to ISA only?

Thanks

In fact, you can allocate the default IRQ of 5 and DMA's 1 and 5 for the
SB16 this way. I've always used this trick, even to get the normal resources
for DOS emulation with the SB live!

Hi John,

Well in the Bios I set both IRQ5 and DMA 1 and 5 to Legacy instead of
PCI/ISA PnP mode.
When the system reboots, It assigns IRQ5 and DMA Channel 1 for the sound
card, but
there is not dma channel 5.

After going through the creativehelp.com web site, I found out the type of
SoundBlaster
card I have there is no 16bit dma channels for these. Can this be possible?

The sound card I have is SoundBlaster 16 with Vibra chipset and the model
is: ct4171

Yes, the Vibra chip is a cut down version.

Shane,

I am sorry about not giving you the proper information about the card.
The CT4171 is the only PnP ISA card we make with out the high DMA feature.
This DMA is usually used to allow the card to be full-duplex. This card
controls full-duplex through the hardware and does not need this DMA.
