DVD Playback after creation

I have been creating home movies and burning them to DVD using Encore 1.5.
They work fine immediatly after I make them using my home DVD player but
after a month or 2 I notice none of them work other than on my compuetr.
Has anyone encountered this problem and what can I do?
I have changed types of DVD (makers) to no avail.
I spend a lot of time editing and creating these and it is so frustrating
when they dont work...
Ideas, recommendations please......
