Hi...

I recieved my Annihilator Pro yesterday as I've heard so much good about
it that I thought it would be a cool replecament for my Hercules adapter.
But
fuck me, now I can't seem to find anywhere to insert the card. My pc doesn't
seem to have one of those sockets that would fit the card. And it won run
when
I put it in the isa slot... Does anyone know if it's possible to get an
adapter so
the card will fit in my isa slot so I can kill all my buddys in UT ?...

Tanx...

Steffan - I ran into the same problem. I had to junk my PC and hook the
Annihilator up to my Commodore 64. Man oh man, is Space Invaders awesome!

What kind of cooling do you have on that monster cpu? Also, you may need
to bump core voltage to 5.20 volts!

isa slot is okay - extra pins on agp card are not used in current version of
drivers.

I tried that. First with a car battery, but that didn't help. Then I just
removed the
psu and connected the board directly to the mains. Man that smells awful, so
I crammed the whole shebang into the fridge to cool it. It still won't run
but atleast
I can't smell it when it's in the fridge.

I think it's a joke, but if it were true.. from what he says, he needs a new
Pro card as well

Okay, next step is to take the whole thing to a good service center like
CompUSA,
where they can provide more knowledgable support.

You are hosed. You need an AGP slot. This means getting a new motherboard.
If you get one, it will need to be an "AT" form factor, not an "ATX." If you
get an ATX board (come to think of it, I haven't seen an AT with an AGP
socket in it. Has anybody else?)...anyway, an ATX board will not fit in your
AT case. Moreover, your AT power supply will not plug into an ATX board.
Even worse, your memory type will probably not work either. The net result
of all this is...you are hosed. If in fact, you are actually serious about
the specs of your present system, then you should consider yourself
seriously hosed.

This has all been covered in Chris Hill's FAQ ver 97.3 where it is stated that
the much awaited 3.67 reference drivers from Nvidia will fix this problem.

You need an agp slot for a Geforce. Not isa or pci, but an agp slot. They
started with motherboards based on the LX chip set and higher. Check your
motherboard manuals for where the agp slot is.

Question: Does what's in the fridge now smell better than what was in there
before you crammed in the whole shebang?

Do what I did. Cut of that extra peice of board on the pro. File of first 4
edge contacts and get some plumbers solder. Get the cheap stuff cause you
need to save some $$$. Solder the pro to the ISA slot. Next solder a power
cord on to the nearest 2 memory chips on the Pro. Plug the cord into a wall
socket. That should be just enough power to keep the card from locking up. I
have also oc'ed 8086, but I got extra cooling a upped it to 8Mhz. This thing
flys. Only thing is my Zork text adventures refuses to run at the fast
setting. Miss thoses text adventures.
Hope this helps.

You may want to read Steffen's post again, Jason.

8086 4Mhz? 256Kb RAM? Kind of a giveaway, isn't it?

I like the "oc'ed to 6MHz" part...heh. Good one Steffen.

Here's what I don't understand:

I read all the posts up until I posted, and counted about three replies that
think you're serious! And the best part is they offer serious advice! What's
with these people??

I had the same problem with my Compaq.. it has proprietary slots.. I had to
solder leads on the Nvidia Chip - and run the wires down to the CPU.. I have a
very small soldering iron but it was pretty tuff nevertheless.. I have the Geo
Force Card taped with Duct Tape to the top of my Compaq.. I get 1200fps in Quake
3 - but am afraid I have voided the warranty..

You lucky, lucky bastard. What I wouldn't *give* for an 8086! Here I am,
playing Quake3 on an Etch-a-Sketch. And you even have a modem! I'm stuck
using a string between two cans. You lucky, lucky bastard!

Har, har! We used to use a lot of duct tape over in the Banshee newsgroup.

You have to get the polarity right. Red is positive.

I've read your post and here's my suggestion:

1. Overclock ISA bus to 66MHz by jamming a fork into a free slot. You're gonna
need some good cooling for the fork, I recommend filling the case with saltwater
and 1000000 RPS fan with built-in self-sustained nuclear power core. (You can
pry one of these off a Voodoo 5 6000.)
2. You'll want more system RAM, so pry a few RAM chips off the GeForce, and
glue them to the processor.
3. Put the GeForce in the slot upside down. Actually, upside-down is
right-side up in this case, so just jam it in.
4. Connect power button connecter to your VCR so it will power up when the VCR
records.
5. Set the VCR to record in 3 hours.
6. Drive 200 miles away from the location of the computer.
7. This step is really optional, but I included it anyway. If you want to
spare the lives of everyone in a 150 mile radius, call the military with a
100-Hydrogen Bomb threat. (Like I said, optional)
8. Hide in a bomb shelter, plug your eyes and close your ears!

P.S.

I know how to enable sideband addressing, but it's just to difficult, and not
worth the trouble.

Oh yeah, step 3 is so AGP texturing can work backwards. So any unused video memory
pulled from the GeForce can still be used by the system.
