Is the fan on annihilator supposed to run all the time or is it
temperature activated ? What's the max allowable case temperature of
the geforce chip underneath the heat sink ?

Yes, all the time. If it's stopped working then I suggest you replace it
with a Blue Orb like I have - replacement is easy!

Try www.geforcefaq.com for more info.

p.s. this newsgroup is a bit dead now - occasionally pop by!

Where did you purchase your Blue Orb replacement?

Where are you, as in UK or US for example...

The Blue Orb is composed of a fan screwed to a heat sink. The heat
sink has two holes that line up with two holes on the annihilator.
This heat sink is meant to sit flush with the cpu on the annihilator.
The problem is there's already a heat sink attached to the cpu on my
annihilator. It is bonded with some sort of thermal epoxy or glue and
I cannot remove it without damaging the cpu.
This leaves me with trying to find another fan for the original heat
sink.
The original fan is not a standard size. It's around 42mm x 45mm. It
may be possible to tap new threads in the heat sink for a standard
fan. I might try and order another fan from creative, but this is the
worst fan I've ever seen.

Goto www.geforcefaq.com - somewhere it says how to remove the existing
heatsink.

Let me know how you get on... I used a screwdriver to pop the old one off
(you put a credit card between the PCB and the screwdriver - this avoids
scratching the PCB...
