I installed the latest Unified Driver's pack in Windows XP and the
Soundblaster Live Platinum card no longer works. There is no sound and it
doesn't recognise Live Drive front panel either.

Symptoms:
- I get a message ("Readreg: Completing installation of your audiocard
now")every time I start windows.
- Device manager shows the card as correctly loaded ("Creative SB Live
(WDM)"), but there is no signal from any of the outputs what-so-ever (either
digital or analogue) with Audio-CDs, WAV files or TV card.
- The Creative Diagnostics program says that the Mixer Driver is not
installed. If I double-click on Control Panel / Audio HQ it says ("Audio
Driver not found. Please Re-install").
- I can select "SB Live Wave Device" in the Control Panel / Sounds and Audio
Devices Properties dialogue, and I can even open the standard Windows volume
control ("Play Control"), but again, no combination of settings will produce
a sound.
- In the "Play Control" settings there is no mention of all of the extra
Live Drive inputs/outputs I have on the front of my machine.
- I have tried putting the card in PCI slots 0, 3, 4 and now I am just about
fed-up.
- I also have an Audiophile 24/96 soundcard and I have run the two in
parrallel in the past without any issues. In any case, in desperation I
removed this card in case it was in fact having an effect. No better luck
I'm afraid.

I remember this Soundcard used to work fine in Windows 2000 with the old
Unified Drivers.

Help! Any ideas / similar experiences? Should I re-install an old driver
level? Who has the previous Unified Drivers? I deleted mine when I
downloaded the new ones.

thanks

Why not just use the drivers on the CD that came with the card.
That is what I did with my audigy2 card. I never DL'd from Creative. It
works great.

Unverifiable newsgroups as well.

Are you sure you are doing things according to specs???

Hmmm. Good suggestion, unfortunately using the original drivers doesn't
work either. I'm beginning to suspect that I might have a hardware fault
with my Live Drive panel, which would explain why the mixer doesn't work,
and might explain why the driver doesn't ever complete installation.

I've decided to give up.... I'll get a break-out box to expand the inputs /
outputs on my Audiophile 2496 card. In any case I get better quality sound
and totally stable drivers (so far). Maybe I should never have bothered
with the Soundblaster. Who uses EAX anyway??

Thanks for your help anyway.
cheers
Charles

Screw Windows. Windows are not too sturdy, they shatter and break, often
causing bleeding of the skin. I plan to replace my Windows soon.

Why do 95%+ computers that host internet sites run Unix or Linux? Because
Unix has been around since the late 1960's, tried and true. On the other
hand please ignore me. I'm just another anti-Microsoft fanatic who loves to
vent! Have a nice day.

PS - I love my NAD integrated amp........it rocks!

Yes, but think of all the fun you'll miss replacing your broken windows
regularly - and what will you do with all the spare money you'll accumulate
not buying newer windows ? Be carefull - you could be in for quite a
culture shock ! ;-b

Yeah, but how can Linux be any good when it isn't advertised on TV ? Free
download ? Open source ? How is THAT going to pay for TV advertising ? Be
serious ! If you don't have to pay a fortune for advertising when you buy
something how can it be any good ? lol

I still use my old NAD 3020 in the study - it still works as well as the day
I bought it.
Mind you, I do prefer the rack full of Linn LK100s driving a pair of Linn
Kabers ! :-)
