Hey Rick, Mira & the team -

 I forgot to mention - but be forewarned -

One of the AmEx guys, Robert, came around to talk to all the groups.

They are looking for real ways to partner with groups in a sustainable way.

# The Hackathon organizers will be sending out a questionnaire tomorrow to that effect..

The will want to know what we think a 'win' would look like to us, in regards to this weekend and over the long haul..

(i.e, what do we want to accomplish successfully that will make us feel like we've 'won'?)

Robert of AmEx suggested we present it in 3 phases - short term, mid term and long term -

It could be many things -

* resource-based, i.e money,

* reaching new populations (explain how additional resources could help),

* improving accessibility and availability, (UI/UX design - User Testing Studies, etc)

* the SMS, (already done)

* Phone-based exchanging, (Twillio???)

* QR Codes, (done?)

* increasing membership among Tenderloin residents, etc...

* Having our own space???

* etc..

If you have suggestions - please pitch them to the google group and we will edit it down to a coherent response.

Also, Rick will be doing a 'test' pitch tomorrow at 1pm that will be videotaped.

The real pitch will be later on at 4:30pm...

Dinner is at 7pm (if you want to stay)

Go Team!

i'm sorry i haven't been around for this discussion, but i'm definitely more than willing to help with the pitch, both in crafting it, and demoing or speaking if desired. and i would LOVE to help figure out ways to maximize the potential with amex if everyone's comfortable with that.

i also just jotted down some ideas for the 5-min pitch tomorrow. maybe something to work from

timebank pitch draft

slide 1 (pictures)

script: for the time being, the global economy is going to be based on a currency that perpetuates debt, and requires growth to keep from collapsing. interest-bearing money is the only thing in the known universe that only grows, and never decays.

slide 2 (pictures)

script: in the modern age, communities like the mid-market trapped in this debt-growth imperative have struggled to fully connect needs with those who can provide for them. Rather than facilitating exchange, money's scarcity creates stagnation. but technology enables us to break the cycle, and scale it up to the size of today's society and today's economy. and that's where the concept of timebanking comes in. time is plentiful, especially in underemployed communities like the mid-market.

slide 3
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”  - Richard Buckminster Fuller

script: there is no reason why there couldn't be thousands of timebanks across the country, meeting many of communities' needs for a means of exchange, for a significant portion of economic activity. and we can scale the hell out of this open source project. think wordpress == publishing as oscurrency == banking. it won't take over, but it will point the way and provide a bridge to something new.

i can say that all in 2 minutes and not sound breathless... :-)

TIMEBANK GENERAL QUICK DEMO (1 min)

SMS FEATURE QUICK DEMO (1 min)

QR CODE PAPER-DIGITAL DEMO (1 min? if not then 1:30 for other two)

happy to go over my reasoning for structuring it that way tomorrow. i'll be in at 9 sharp. yay team!

an updated version... i imagine each slide as simply being one bucky quote that sets the context for the root of the issues at hand, and why the time-bank can be a world-changing idea, and using the script, letting people absorb the quote on the their own. that way, the pace could be kept slower and more impactful... i can whip up an example to discuss in the morning. cheers!

slide 1

“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”  - Richard Buckminster Fuller

script: for the time being, the global economy is going to be based on a currency that perpetuates debt, and requires growth to keep from collapsing. interest-bearing money is the only thing in the known universe that only grows, and never decays.

slide 2

“Humanity is acquiring all the right technology for all the wrong reasons.” - Richard Buckminster Fuller

script: in the modern age, communities like the mid-market trapped in this debt-growth imperative have struggled to fully connect needs with those who can provide for them. Rather than facilitating exchange, money's scarcity creates stagnation. but open source technology enables us to break the cycle, and scale it up to the size of today's society and today's economy. and that's where the concept of timebanking comes in. time is plentiful, especially in underemployed communities like the mid-market.

slide 3

“If you want to teach people a new way of thinking, don't bother trying to teach them. Instead, give them a tool, the use of which will lead to new ways of thinking.” -Richard Buckminster Fuller

script: there is no reason why there couldn't be thousands of timebanks across the country, meeting many of communities' needs for a means of exchange, for a significant portion of economic activity. and we can scale the hell out of this open source project. think wordpress == publishing as oscurrency == banking. it won't take over, but it will point the way and provide a bridge to something new.
