to Creation vs Evolution

The whole evolutionary function of religion is to provide people with
a sense that they are a community and you have to have a common origin
to do that. Way back when people believed in many gods, their
religions were filled with myths about how the Earth came into being.
Much of it dealt with the old Mother Godess fertility faith-leftover
concept of birth being creation. Then, with the male god idea taking
over, it of course had to be him in charge so he just made everything
materialize out of nothing. He coudn't bear and deliver it like a
woman can!

When you get indoctrinated with these myths, it is easy to overlook
how impossible it is for something to be created out of nothing! The
religionists come back at you and say well, it had to be created
because it wasn't, and then it was, but of course there is no reason
to think there ever was a time when there was no matter or energy in
the universe! And besides, their lame comeback only begs the
question: "how did this Creator get created?"

Religionists are often motivated by a need to see "purpose" in the
universe and hence, in their lives. What we really need instead is
goals. We need common goals so we can work together on Earth to
achieve them. That is much better to use our "free will" that way and
direct our selves rather than rely upon 2000 year old accounts of some
Ominipisant force imposing on us HIS purpose for which we had better
comply or be burned and tortured forever! We, ourselves, are just not
evil like that. We set our own goals and don't impose them on others
and then expect to be "loved." Lets not prostrate ourselves before
such "beings" any more. Let's and stand straight in life confident we
can make it on our own!

That is actually what we have been doing all along anyway---that is,
making it on our own . . .
