Hello friends,

To those who live or worship in Maryland, we need your help again. With crossover day quickly approaching on Monday, we are very concerned that the Affordable Solar Act won’t make it through the house in time. We would be so appreciative if you could call your delegate as soon as possible, especially if they are on the House Environment & Transportation Committee, and call for a vote in committee. A list of those delegates is below with their phone numbers as well as a call script for you to use. Help us get this bill over the finish line. More information is below.

Thank you for your support,
Ethan

P.S: Please keep a lookout over the coming days and weeks for more action alerts like this as crossover happens and bills (prayerfully) get taken up by the other chamber.

On the first day of session, I joined a rally in Annapolis to speak out for the Affordable Solar Act, and called on our legislators to follow the lead of over seventy Maryland congregations which are already getting energy from sun.

As I write this, though, the Maryland House Environment & Transportation Committee – including your delegate – has yet to call the Affordable Solar Act up for a vote and is running out of time to do so before the Senate would need to pick it up for passage this year.

Our communities understand the power of solar energy. Can you speak out for solar power by calling your Delegate today and asking them to support The Affordable Solar Act (HB 345) and call for a committee vote? (Look up the committee members here to find your delegate. Not sure what district you're in? Check here).

You know what is not a good use of our faith communities’ funds?” I said in January. “Paying some of Maryland’s leading polluters higher and higher prices for the same dirty energy.”

One of the best ways for our facilities and our communities to stabilize and manage energy costs is to go solar, but we need measures like The Affordable Solar Act to make solar possible for more Maryland residents and congregations.

📞 Call your Delegate today and say:

“Hello, my name is [Name], and I live in [City]. I’m calling as a constituent/[MEMBER OF X CONGREGATION] to urge Delegate [Name] to call for a vote on HB 345, the Affordable Solar Act.

[Share your own experience with solar panels on your home, or on your congregation, or a solar project you’d like to undertake if solar were more affordable.]

We deserve real solutions that empower us to manage rising energy bills.

Can we count on Delegate [NAME] to call for a vote on HB 345 in committee before crossover?”

[Wait for answer. If no answer, request a call back with the delegate’s position.]

Please make this call today and let us know how it went at and...@ipldmv.org

With gratitude,
