Welcome to the Creating Common Ground Discussion Form.
Our group is open to all who seek to create common ground between and among people who hold different viewpoints, perspectives and systems of belief. Please feel free to start a topic or respond to a thread.
All are welcome. We ask that all who participate seek to uphold the ethos of Creating Common Ground. This means that we:
1. Acknowledge the dignity and humanity of each other.
2. Embrace an attitude of curiosity and credulity about each other's views.
3. Seek to separate the positions that people adopt on an issue from the underlying needs, interests, beliefs, concerns and values that motivate those positions.
4. Seek to understand the needs, interests, beliefs and feelings that underlie the positions of others with whom we might disagree.
5. Act constructively in good faith by seeking to create common ground between speakers in a discussion, rather than try to cut down those with whom we disagree.
6. Act with compassion, care, empathy and respect toward each other.
