Australian Research Council(Discovery Projects) Closing date 4/3/15–Discovery Projects support excellent basic and applied research by individuals and teams, enhance the scale and focus of research in the National Research Priorities, expand Australia’s knowledge base and research capability, encourage research and research training in high-quality research environments, enhance international collaboration in research, and foster the international competitiveness of Australian research. Applications open in December 2014. The Funding rules for 2016 funding are now available (Category 1).
Healthway(Special Research Initiative – Alcohol prevention and policy research) Closing date 23/1/15 - In 2015, the Drug and Alcohol Office (DAO) is offering funds for priority driven research in building the evidence base for alcohol prevention initiatives in WA. To request a copy of the guidelines and application form please contact rese...@healthway.wa.gov.au or call 08 9476 7000.Priorities include alcohol and young people; availability research; and Health Economics and modeling of alcohol. 2-3 grants will be funded.
Healthway(Starter Grants) Closing date 27/2/15 - Research projects should focus on Healthway’s high priority areas of tobacco smoking control, reducing harm from alcohol, good nutrition promotion, physical activity promotion, mental health promotion and Aboriginal health. Applicants can be either new investigators, who should seek support in developing their application from more experienced researchers and should plan to conduct their study within an experienced research team, or experienced investigators, who wish to undertake new and innovative formative work or pilot studies for research into health promotion. $30,000 up to 18mths. Outcomes June 2015.
Healthway(Health Promotion Research Project Grants) Closing date 27/2/15- Applicants are encouraged to focus on Healthway’s high priority areas of tobacco smoking control, reducing harm from alcohol, good nutrition promotion, physical activity promotion (including reducing sedentary behaviour), mental health promotion and Aboriginal health. May include an invervention year. $120,000 p/a for up to 3yrs; Intervention research $150,000. A CI may not apply or receive funding for more than 4 projects (4 grant rule) in any one year. (Category 1 this year). Ian Potter Foundation(Health and Disability grants) Closing date 12/1/15- These support innovative programmes that enhance the lives of people with disability or chronic illness and promote the health of the community. EOI form online.
National Health and Medical Research Council(Project grants) Closing date 18/3/15- The objective of the Project Grants scheme is to support the creation of new knowledge by funding the best investigator-initiated research project plan of five years, or less, in any area relevant to human health. Single investigators or teams of up to ten chief investigators are supported as well as New Investigators (early career investigators). Applications open in December 2014. (Category 1)
INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Merck (Germany)(Grant for Growth Innovation 2015) Closing date 6/1/15 - This aims to support the advancement of science and medical research in the field of growth and to facilitate new external research to identify potential clinical markers in patients with growth disorders. Worldwide researchers are invited to apply. A total of €400,000 will be shared between 1-3 selected projects. Max 3 year projects.
FELLOWSHIPS/SCHOLARSHIPS:
Australian Government Department of Health(Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme) Closing date 30/1/15 - provides financial support to encourage and enable students from rural and remote communities to undertake undergraduate or graduate studies in pharmacy at university. At least 30 scholarships are offered annually, with a value of $10,000 per annum per student. Scholarship recipients are encouraged to seek employment in rural and remote areas following graduation. The student must have lived in a defined rural area (PhARIA areas 2-6) for a minimum of five consecutive years, or eight cumulative years from the age of five.
Winston Churchill Memorial Trust(50th Anniversary Churchill Fellowship) Closing date 16/2/15 - These enable Australian citizens to undertake a research project overseas that is not readily available in Australia. Fellowships are generally awarded to those whose major contribution to their field lies before them. Over 1000 applications are received each year. Approx $20,000 for 4-8 weeks travel.
