LIST OF CURRENT FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES – 2 December 2014
Applications need to be submitted to an ORI Research Administration Officer for review 3 weeks before the closing date (contacts below).
Australian College of Operating Room Nurses (Research Grants) Closing date 28/02/15 – to promote research into perioperative nursing practice. Applicants must be higher degree research students (PhD or Masters), research teams or beginning researchers. At least one applicant must be a member of the college. Up to $20,000.
Australian Flora Foundation (Research Grants) Closing date 16/3/15 – for grants to support original scientific projects on the biology and cultivation of Australian plants. All relevant applications will be considered, with special interest in the following categories: conservation of Australian plant diversity, particularly where there are threats from climate change; the cultivation of Australian plants, to ensure their survival and reduce the threat to native ecosystems; rare and endangered plants. The Foundation expects to support between two and four projects at $5,000 - $15,000 each per year.
Healthway (Visiting Research Fellowship) Closing date 19/12/14 – to support organisations or institutions in inviting a leading expert in health promotion research or practice to Western Australia for a period of up to three months to work with local health promotion groups in this state. The primary focus of the visit should be to work with several key local health promotion teams, as well as to present in seminars or workshops for the benefit of the health promotion community in WA. Up to $35,000.
Ian Potter Foundation (Medical Research) UPDATED closing date 3/2/15 – aim to advance understanding and improve treatment of major diseases. To support major initiatives in innovative biomedical research, the anticipated benefits of which are likely to advance the research outcomes of the institution as a whole and to support organisations undertaking research into major diseases. Projects suitable for submission to the ARC and/or NHMRC will not normally be supported.
INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges (Putting Women and Girls at the Center of Development) Closing date 13/1/15 – focuses on how to effectively reach and empower the most vulnerable women and girls to improve health and development – including economic – outcomes as well as gender equality. Grants will go to investigators in low- and middle-income countries but partnerships with investigators in other countries is encouraged, especially where the opportunity exists to build on existing collaborations.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges (Creating and Measuring Integrated Solutions for Health Birth, Growth and Development) Closing date 13/1/15 – focuses on new measurement tools and new combinations of approaches to ensure all children thrive – that they not only survive, but also have the chance to live healthy productive lives. Grants will go to investigators in low- and middle-income countries but partnerships with investigators in other countries is encouraged, especially where the opportunity exists to build on existing collaborations.
Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges (New Interventions for Global Health) Closing date 13/1/15 – focuses on innovative concepts for vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics with the potential to be translated into safe, effective, affordable and widely utilised interventions to protect against the acquisition or transmission of infectious diseases or to provide a cure for infectious diseases in resource-limited settings.
Merck Serono (Oncology Innovation Grant) Closing date 30/01/15 – aims to support innovative research projects that have the potential to advance the implementation of personalised treatment for solid tumours. Particular areas of interest are: access to personalised treatment for patients; innovative research with clinical relevance and benefits and solid tumour malignancies. Up to €1 million is available for one or more selected projects.
FELLOWSHIPS/SCHOLARSHIPS:
Healthway (Aboriginal Research Training Scholarship) Closing date 15/12/14 – support for indigenous students to undertake research training in areas of particular relevance to the promotion of health in Aboriginal communities. Successful applicants must enrol for a postgraduate course at a fully accredited institution. Priority areas include alcohol and drug misuse, determinants of healthy behaviour, good nutrition, injury prevention, mental health, physical activity promotion, sexual health, sun protection, tobacco smoking control, asthma prevention and control, cancer prevention, cardiovascular disease prevention, and research projects must focus on the Western Australian population.
Sugar Research Australia - Postgraduate Research Scholarships (SPRS) Closing date 31/12/14 – up to $32,000 to enable students to undertake Masters or PhD research degrees in disciplines relevant to the future of the Australian sugar industry. Applicants should focus on inventive project that address at least one of the following eight key focus areas of investment: Optimally-adapted varieties; plant breeding and release; Soil health and nutrient management; Pest, disease and weed management; Farming systems and production management; Milling efficiency and technology; Product diversification and value addition; Knowledge and technology transfer and adoption; Capability development, attraction and retention.
