Maybe off topic (actually might be the opposite to this topic!) but
does anyone know of a top-end printer in brighton? I've got something
that needs to be cropped REALLY accurately (ie. to less than 0.5mm),
but normal printers can't guarantee that. I'm thinking it will need to
be somewhere that's willing to line up the cropping manually.

Any advice would be v welcome!

Cheers, Frank

Hi!
All this talk of printers gives me a chance to suggest the first
"CreateBrighton" project - how's about a lo-fi magazine type thingy
promoting ourselves as a creative unit/group/arts set!?
Content - well perhaps just a page from everyone of a visual, or
thought, or something of interest???
Or one of those foldout to a poster formats where we've played
photoshop tennis to make a poster?

Going back to the corner now.....

Hi Steve,

I think this is a great idea! It would be such a fun project to do.

Hi to all. I didn't make it to the first Create Brighton meetup. Hope to meet you all next time.

I like the idea of a fanzine. I think there should be a subject matter
though.

Yeh, we could do a quarterly where the subject matter changes each
time and could be based on stuff like:
design news?
social issues?
music & arts?
brighton?
anything that we all agree could be a subject with legs!

also..

3d animation, effects and video, music videos and stuff.

I was thinking of using more abstract concepts as a 'brief' to maybe get us out of our general design comfort zone. I think this might produce more interesting results and appeal to a wider range of people.

Hi Frank

Try Generation Press (generationpress.co.uk) - very good attention to
detail and quality print. Alternatively, Beacon Press
(www.beaconpress.co.uk).

Thanks Sarah. Ah yes - they're actually in a design book I'm reading
at the moment. Thanks for the tip!

These are great printers, but I wouldn't necessarily categorise them as 'affordable'. They produce some great high-end print stuff though for the likes of Build and Designers Republic.

Hi Charis,

What kind of quantities are you after, do you want digital or litho?

www.stressfreeprint.co.uk is one of the cheapest I've found on the web
(not based in Brighton but they send printed proofs the next day so it
doesn't matter). They do both kinds of print. Quality is ok on most
things I've had printed there, ask for a sample pack.

Frank - Vivid Design & Print are really good quality and so is
www.paulgreenprinting.co.uk (London based).

Cheers
Steven.

Liking the idea of a zine for the Brighton creative community - count
me in (somehow)!

Missed the first meet-up, but hoping to make it along to the second
one.
