Cold Weather Paddling:

Sunday, September 30, 2012, 11am - 1:00pm

Did you know that with the proper gear and knowledge, paddling can almost be a year-round activity in our area?  Late fall, winter, and early spring are great times to kayak.  No loud power boats, jet skis, or other distractions.  Snow covered banks, steaming lakes, and the quite solitude are all yours.  Learn what equipment and clothing are  necessary  to keep you warm and safe on the water, whatever the season.  We'll all discuss where to go, and the best ways to store your boat once the lakes ice over.  All attendees will receive a free Sea to Summit dry bag!  There is a non-refundable $25 fee for this class and must be paid before 9/26/2012.

Please r.s.v.p. at Appalachian Outfitters, or call the store at (330) 655-5444.  Seating is limited so please don't wait

Wetterlings Camp Axes  Wetterlings logo
New to Appalachian Outfitters are Wetterlings Axes. Wetterlings axes are made in the small town of Strovik, Sweden.  The heads are forged on site, and the solid hickory handles are also cut, shaped, sanded, and finished in-house.

During last month's Outdoor Retailer show, we had the pleasure to meet Julia, the young lady that runs Wetterlings and who has the great title of CEO & Blacksmith.  This is a company that takes the quality of their products very seriously.

Beyond the product, Wetterlings also believes in minimizing manufacturing's footprint on the planet.  They have installed their own water powered power plant to produce 100% of their electrical needs, including power used to forge the axe heads themselves!  Wetterlings has also teamed up with Discovery Channel survival expert Les Stroud, to develop the Bushman Axe. With a November release date on the Bushman, we hope to have this exquisitely crafted new model stocked in time for the holidays.

Grower's Cup Coffee

GrowersCup_logo
Our first shipment of Grower's Cup coffee sold out in days! Our staff has tried every type of "outdoors" coffee we could find looking for one worthy of its weight be being carried into the backcountry.  Finally we've found one, Grower's Cup.  This coffee is produced and packaged by a small, specialty Danish coffee brewer and it tastes great.

The packaging is similar to that used by backpacking food manufacturers.  The pouch contains ground coffee and a special filter.  Pour hot water in, close the zipper, wait five to six minutes, and pour!  This is as good as any coffee you can make at home, or, buy at any coffee shop.  When your done, zip the empty pouch closed and pack it out,  No more french presses or coffee pots to haul around.  Stop in and pick up a few packs today, before we sell out again!
